Thumbs up Started folding again....

Yeah so I am hardly ever at my PC, but yet it is on all the time. Decided to put it back to good use again. More than likely going to hit it up with a VM setup again, we shall see.

Going to look in to setting up a few other machines possibly.

I also recently re-started.. Now that it's the winter months, I have no problems anymore kicking the machine on to let it fold, generating the extra heat..

Also, my 8800GTX died. I think it was "caused" by folding. Lemme explain - the card was already 2 years old, and when I started folding, I don't think anything else actually stressed out the card. So I think that there might have been a manufacturing defect that Folding brought to the forefront (or at least a cooling "problem" - maybe a bad solder job or something). However, it was a Gigabyte card (1 year warranty), and I couldn't return it. Well I could, but it would have been a significant chunk of money to repair it. That and the 4890 was available for $220. So I got a new 4890 instead.

BTW, anyone want a broken 8800GTX?

However, the PS3 has been folding away now for a some time. I suppose that was one of the dumbest purchases I ever made. I'll have to see if I can wade through all of the (terrible) documentation to figure out how to start folding "optimally" again. Someone REALLY needs to clean up the F@H homepage on what to do to start folding again.

Heh heh, I'll have to try that out. Essentially the card would cause a lockup after about 3 minutes of powering on the computer. Well, sometimes less. Exact same symptoms would occur under Linux (Ubuntu, Slax), Windows XP, and FreeDOS - the screen would get all "weird" and then, about 5 seconds later, nothing worked (not even num/capslock! ). Hard boot would let me use the computer for another 10 seconds or so (just enough to POST, then died again). However, if I turned it off, and let it sit for a long time, then I could squeeze another 3 minutes out of it - clearly non-functional.

Anyway, now that I have WIndows 7, and if the "Oven trick" works, then I can have a full time folder while I use the faster 4890 for everything else. Well, theoretically, that is.

I've decided that I'm back in the game, last time I was folding is when I use s754 Sempron Currently running GPU client and my 9600GT runs at its full speed 760/1900MHz core shader

Would it be better for me to fold in my lappy? My laptop only uses HD 4570, I don't know whether this would be beneficial since ATi don't produce as much PPD as nvidia GPU

I got my Mobility HD4570 to fold now but even with 750MHz core the folding speed is terrible, I don't think its worth to leave it folding since its in laptop Damn, if this are the speed which ATi card fold, I don't think I'll buy ATi cards in the future
