Lost my girl Sasha today. Eleven year old wolf hybrid. Sucks rocks huge...extremely smart beastie. The vet tells me that her intestines got sort of knotted up and burst. She went septic inside. She was fine last night but by morning she was in a real bad way. The vet said given her age to put her down was a kindness. I sure hope she didn't lie to me. This dog knew how to fish. Me and a bud where camping by a little creek...Fossil Springs. Catching trout with no effort and cooking them on spits while we fished. She watched for a while...stuck her head under and came up with a fish. Liked that dog more than most people.

So sad to lose a friend. I know some people will say it's just a pet but I know that to some people our pets are very close to us. All the best Bete. |

Very sorry to hear. It is a really hard decision to make. I have lost two dogs in the last year six months apart from each other. The first one stopped eating and wasn't doing too good. The second was diagnosed with bone cancer and a rare tumor in the shoulder. Both times I thought I made the wrong decision in letting them go, always thinking maybe if I spent a little more cash or went to a different vet that maybe I could have them a little longer. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of each of them. Thankfully, I now have two great pups, and it gets a little easier. Try and not doubt yourself, if her intestines went it would have been quick I think. I believe you made the right decision in letting her go. Just try and remember the good times, thats what I always do. Again, sorry to hear. Best wished in your time of grieving. |

That's rough man. I've had my dog for 11 years now and she's starting to slow down a lot, I know it won't be too much longer, and I can't really imagine what it'd feel like. Don't really want to know. All the best.

I know how you feel. Had to put my Golden down (13 years old) about 2 months ago. Worst part about it all was that the condition he had was curable. But the care and attention he would require was beyound my capabillity (feeding him by hand, etc, he would be incredibly inbalanced and lack of proper direction he got idiopathic syndrome) so i had to basically make the decision to put him down because I wouldn't be able to keep him out of suffering. Tore me apart for sure.

My sincerest condolence, Bete. And, yes, your vet did make the best and most compassionate decision. GDV (gastric dilation and volvulus) is harsh, and does significant damage if the gut does perforate. She would have suffered most likely if you'd persisted with trying to keep her around. Doesn't seem fair in our lifespan to lose them so soon, but her life was good, especially in your hands, bud.

My condolences, Bete. I remember how my vet once, in a random conversation about dogs, told me about that very same disease, and how when that happens there is no hope. I know how you feel, losing a dog is terrible. I still miss my Pegi. They really are our best friends.

Sorry to hear that. I got my first doggy(Australian Sheppard) just over 3 years ago after avoiding them basically my whole life. I just didn't care for dogs. Well now I look at my Aussie(Aussies were actually breed in California, hold no roots to Australia ) and imagine what the 3 years would have been with out him. They truly do carry a sixth sense and are mans best friend. Good thing for Aussie owners is that it's common for these dogs to live to be 20 yrs old but it does cross my mind every now and then about that day. I did however go through a life experience with a cat we had in the family for 23 years. I had to take her in for my mother and growing up with this cat it was still very upsetting. But after all was said and done and I reflected on the joy the cat brought to the family. I came to terms that even though a pet lives a decade or two, it did serve a purpose of joy and that's life. I also have a Blue Fronted Amazon though that will see pets come and go and more then likly see me pass on as long as he stays healthy lol. Parrots(most) are the most safe bet pet if you want to avoid pet deaths lol.

Sorry man, i feel with ya. Losing a dog/cat after living several years with em is always hard. If the dog/cat gets seriously sick beyond possible medical cure it's up to the owners how they really care. I've seen enough people who couldn't let go....which is understandable, but neithertheless the wrong deciscion. It's human to do so. I've got a bunch of buddies with dogs/cats, some did the right thing, some don't. It isn't easy one way or another, but in the end you have to simply ask yourself what's the best for your pet. I know how we felt when our old lady (cat) got sick and had to go. It was horrible. Whoever has a pet knows how you feel right now. Try to keep the good memories in mind, the fun you had with her and how much of joy she added to your life. That's the best you can do.
