First of all I have a compaq store bought PC with windows vista. I does not have the windows vista disk just a second partition with the back ups on and I also have the recovery disks made from the system. My first question is: 1. using the windows7 upgrade disk can I upgrade to a 64bit OS or does it have to remain 32bit? 2. can I buy a complete new harddrive to install windows7 just to keep my vista as a backup and then can it be installed as a 64 bit or am I not going to be able to do a fresh install becuase I don't have an original vista disk? has anyone else ran across this situation?

1. no, you cannot upgrade from 32bit OS to 64bit OS 2. with the new HDD you can install Win 7 on it, then for boot option you can just choose HDD boot priority from Bios (HDD #1 or HDD #2) |
