Last night for the first time ever i noticed 2 lines going down the left side of my tv (very VERY skinny lines but stil big enough to notice when sitting on a couch 10 feet away. I was able to "bang" them out by tapping the top of the tv above the 2 lines and they did eventually go away after a few bangs (not before changing color first). They went away for the remainder of me watching the tv, then i turned it off for about 30-40 min, came back to it and then a few min after i turned it on they came back. Again i proceeded to bang the top of the tv (not too hard), and eventually they did come out after a few hits and stayed out for the last 4-5 hours i had the tv on still. I haven't checked it today but this is starting to scare me. My g/f and i paid $2200 for this tv over a year ago (its actually only a few months past its warranty, about 3 actually). Either way we paid some damn good money for what was supposed to be a close to top end Sony tv and now this crap is happening. So A. Whats causing this to happen? B. Can i fix it with something as easy as blowing dust/possible cat hair out of the top/back of it? and C. Is this a sign that im gonna have future problems down the road? Thanks Edit 2: I should also add to the fact that i have never EVER had the tv turned on when there has been a storm going on outside (im also in an apartment building). And i have never had the tv on when the power has just went out all of a sudden (thats only happened like maybe 3 or 4 times over the course of the year ive had it and that's only been twice in the middle of the night while sleeping and once or twice during a storm but ive always had the tv off to begin with. So its not a matter of the tv getting fried from power outage or surge but i am finally picking up a UPS battery backup for it today. Edit: Ok the link to a tv i posted earlier was the wrong one, the model i have is a Sony Bravia 46" LCD KDL-46S4100. Annnnd ive been doing some reading and found out that this specific model is also one of there lower end ones apparently which i had no idea was the case considering i paid $1700+ tax for the damn thing... Guess i should have gotten extended warranty because when i came home 3 lines showed up, but after some banging on the top i was able to get rid of them and after i do that they NEVER come back until i turn the tv off then back on again. I got it from The Brick on a don't pay for 15 months plan, which meant i had to get a Brick credit card to do it. |

Well my tv is still making the lines down the screen but i tried something new last night when i got home. I turned it on (cold start up), 3 lines showed up. Tried a quick couple taps on the top of the tv and they didn't go away. So i let it sit turned on and after about roughly 10 min or so (maybe not even), they went away on there own after it warmed up. |

I'd stop banging on the tv as a solution. Also call up the brick/sony and see if there's anything they can do out of warranty. At the very least they can direct you to an authorized repair place.

I'll probably end up calling Sony to see what they can do. And yeah i stopped hitting the top of the tv cause i found out that if i just let it sit here and warm up that the 3 lines will go away one by one on there own after any where's from 10-15 min (so basically once the tv warms up). |
