An article from the Daily Mail explains that the "luminous ring-shaped cloud" was simply an optical effect.

An official spokesperson for Moscow's weather department said, "Several fronts have been passing through Moscow recently, there was an intrusion of the Arctic air too, the sun was shining from the west — this is how the effect was produced."

video looks fake to me. The clouds stretch, pan around more than just the ordinary parallax of the background and change contrast.

It does look fake, but probably only because of how awesome a spectacle it is.

One way to know it's got to be real, is the passing street light poles that so perfectly pass right in front of it as the car drives along the highway. That would be quite difficult to create.

Sorry, the "supernatural" part of the post was not in reply to you.

Are you a weather expert? If not then of course it would sound strange, because you dont understand meteorology. I'm sure they could have gone into more detail with the explanation but kept it brief for the article.

I think I have the grade 8 science knowledge to understand how clouds form.

I don't think I've heard of a circular formation from opposing fronts that didn't result in a vortex (aka tornado, hurricane, etc). Even cirrostratus clouds, which can form halos, are more perfectly round than the moscow halo and are not formed the way the report describes.

It's a rather peculiar formation and the blasé explanation is just weird to me, that's all.

Are you a metereologist (from your user name)? Do you do something with weather, can you explain it to us?

Nope. I just figure leave it to the experts to explain it. But I guess they didnt do a very thorough job of that.
