Default CCC Won't Load for Radeon 4350

Hello All

I have installed the Gigabyte 4350 PCI-E card into my system, and installed the 9.9 package from AMD/ATI's website. The card is recognized fine, and shows the proper driver in device manager. CCC shows in my list of programs, but will not load, even when restarting runtimes. Looking in task manager, it appears that CLIstart.exe starts up, and so does MOM.exe and CCC.exe. However, after a short time CLIstart disappears, followed shortly thereafter by CCC and MOM. The shell extension for CCC never does show, either. Why isn't CCC loading correctly?

configuration:
ASRock K8NF6G-VSTA w/ AMD64/3000+
WinXP Pro SP3
ATI Gigabyte RADEON 4350 w/ F21 Bios (samsung memory)

CPU-Z currently shows the following:

GPU Core Clock 110.0 Mhz *
GPU Memory Clock 198.0 Mhz *
GPU Temp 43.0 C
Fan Speed 24%
GPU Load 0%
GPU Temp 1 43.0 C
GPU Temp 2 43.0 C

Both GPU Core and GPU Memory Clocks go up (to normal 650/400) under load, then back down to the above readings at normal desktop load.

When installing in safe mode, a "severe" error pops up, claiming that the hardware and/or OS is not compatible with this driver. That happens with Cat 9.2, 9.3, 9.8, 9.9's...

This is a problem I've had for a few weeks now. CCC simply refuses to start up for me. I've even resorted to doing a Windows Upgrade installation and that does not fix the problem.

However, everything else is working just fine and dandy. No problems with games or other programs.

One note: The card is designed to increase memory and core speeds under 3D applications and will revert to lower speeds when not using 3D mode. So, your card is functioning properly in that respect.

Once Windows 7 is officially released, I plan to install it on a brand new HDD and leave this one alone until I can back up whatever it is I want to keep.

Thanks Dyre

One bummer about the 3D standby feature, I've been using ATITool with my old 1650 Pro AGP on my old nforce2 board, but with this mobo ATITool won't recognize the speeds correctly, so without Catalyst and ATITool I haven't been able to do any OC'ing on this card, some peeps are reporting core up to 700 and mem almost up to 600. The core doesn't mean as much to me as trying to get the mem clocks faster since they are only 400/800 to begin with. I guess I'll have to try another 3rd party tool for that. Any suggestions?

Well I'll be a S.O.B! I can't believe it! On a whim I decided to download the display driver, AVIVO WDM codecs, and CCC separately, and try installing them one at a time like we used to have to long ago. I had the GIGABYTE driver from march in there for basic display and instead of uninstalling it I just installed the 9.9 driver over it and rebooted. Then the WDM driver, and rebooted again. Finally the CCC and rebooted a third time, and when desktop loaded up lo and behold CCC started up also. I just used the auto-tune feature and it recommended a max of 690 core and 480 mem clock, so I guess its working fine now. Not bad OC's available for a $35 card that IF the rebates come through make it only $20.

This should be a nice little basic card that will pass down to the kids next year along with this old 754 box, lol. What helps me about this card is that although ATI states I need a 400 watt PSU, I'm using an Antec True380S and so far it is handling the card OK without an external connection, along with 2 HDD's, a floppy and a DVD burner. I really didn't want to have to buy a new PSU for this box, I'm saving for an AMD quad-core build and I'll get a better PSU and card then for that rig.

Tomorrow I get to test the HDMI output to my Sony 46" LCD and hopefully it will be decent (right now I have a 1650 Pro AGP in an Nforce2 board hooked up through component cables, in theory this should be at least as good if not better--my fingers are crossed).

I've dl'd Rivatuner and also ATITray tools so I'll play around a little with them another time. I also dl'd the beta 9.10 package (185MB? wotdaheck?) but I think I'll hold off on them for now, no use to rock the boat, lol.

I guess the full install Radeon packages have gotten us spoiled, I hadn't installed each part individually in a coon's age.
As far as computers go, right now this skt 754 w/4350 is the top box in the house--sad, isn't it? And I had been getting by with the nF4/6150 onboard video up until now, while the kids have the X850XT and my media box has the X1650Pro (both AGP) so this was my FIRST PCI-E card, that's how far this old goat can pinch a penny

My kids are 7 & 9, at this stage all they play is basic Lego and Barbie games and they go to various online kid's sites for games so old P3's and socket A's w/ AGP has been enough for them. They just got moved up to a P4/533fsb/4xAGP box recently and were tickled pink, sort of like I am with this old box and new card -- yep, I've finally arrived in 2005, ... As daddy gets newer stuff (ie: less old) then my 5/6 year-old stuff gravitates to them...

man oh man I can't wait for my new build (its for vid-editing, I've got 10 years worth of analog 8mm video to convert moreso than playing any games so I will still only get a medium strength vid card). I haven't had cutting edge since 2003 when I built the A7N8XDeluxe2.0 and put a 9800Pro in it, so it will be long overdue...

Thanks for the input and help folks, I can always count on a rager!

I do love that x850xt, still a great card for DX9.
