Default Thinking about finally tying the knot with my GF

But i dont know how im gonna propose Ive been thinking of ways on how to do it for the past few weeks now but i still haven't come up with anything. Im not exactly the brightest crayon in the box per say so im pretty horrible at coming up with things to do and being original. I guess i just lack that special gene or something.

Either way, i was wondering if some of the guys on here who are married could share with me your stories on how you proposed. Im planning on doing it this upcoming Sunday since it will be our anniversary, plus were already planning on going out to dinner so i was gonna do it after that. Buuuuuut i dont wanna do it at home cause i feel like that would be a bit lame. So obviously i should take her out somewhere afterwards to do it but i would still like to hear some personal stories on how some of you guys did it.

Any idea's will help me, i just wanna see how some other people have done it.

Thanks guys

You sir, are awesome -- I love the blunt honesty.

But yea, depends what you guys like to do together? What is your favourite pasttime, how'd you first meet, what restaurant was your favourite, what song, etc -- it's a corny mix of things, to be honest .. failing everything, just take her to her favourite places and do it on top of a hill/next to some waterfalls.

Come on, you're away from the big city, you guys have some nice scenery..

You can put your animated avatar as a cut-out cardboard background when you propose to her.

I think you should swallow the ring, take some peptac at dinner, get down on one knee, then throw it up on her lap while trying to gargle out the question. If she really is the one, she'll think it was awesome and say yes.

lol that might be a bit awkward i think

The crappy thing about doing it though is that my g/f is freaking smart! she will know that something is up as soon as i ask her if she wants to go somewhere else after dinner OR if i just take her somewhere. She knows that its coming so as soon as i do something that's out of the ordinary for me she will know right away.

I really have no good advice except, just make sure you don't show her your avatar. She might get mixed feelings about it.

I'm kidding!

Good luck!

My proposal wasn't very romantic. We'd been together for 4+ years and both of us had previously been married and had kids already. We lived together and so it was a mutual decision to make it official so we'd stop "living in sin" to shut the parents up, even though both of us were well over 30 years old.

Sorry I'm not being more helpful.

Mine wasn't very big either. While my daughter was opening xmas presents and my wife was taking pictures I just took the ring and held it out infront of the camera lens while i whispered the question in her ear.

There was someone whose fiance managed to convince all major businesses who had display signs downtown to display the proposal question for him. I think it took her like 3/4 of the way through town before she realized what they said. Pretty cool though and she did say yes. We live in a town of only 12,000 though, so thats a bit easier.

There's only one reason I'd ever marry, and that is for the legal benefits. I hate going to weddings (I haven't been to anyones wedding for about six years because they're all the same and of them, about twelve divorced after a year or so)

If I ever did ,it would be a dance off, or a small prviate one with no reception. Most of my family is a bunch of boring sycophants who parrot each other, so there are only two people whom I would even consider inviting to a wedding in it was 'public'. Not to mention the expenses involved with the ritual.

Well i was always thinking about just decorating the apartment up nicely. Play some soft music, candle light, rose peddles or something and just surprise her like that when she gets home from work (even if it is at 1am). LOL so propose then go to bed right away cause it will be too late, hahaha.

Are you trying to make a subtle insult? I came into this thread with my own view on how I would do marriage which does not have to be read, and tell him how I would approach it as advice, not to try and be unique.

If you want to make every thread I come into about me, you go right ahead and make a fool out of yourself.

If you are going to do it Mate go big and with loads of class.

I proposed to my girl in a surprise trip to Washington D.C. and asked her at the Lincoln memorial at night.

It was a perfect weekend and to this day whenever she sees that memorial she go's nuts.

If you're going to propose while "out", start going "out" more often to make it less of a "oh something is going on" moment for her.

Everyone is different. You know yourself and you know her - you are highly unlikely to get anything very useful from anyone else in terms of suggestions of how to do it.

My wife and I were together for several years and mutually decided we'd get married. The where/when of the proposal we left as a surprise (she looked at me suspiciously each time we went out... i waited until that stopped and then BAM! popped the question). I proposed at our favorite Italian place - arranged things with the owner and staff beforehand - no rings in food or drinks please as that can kill someone or break a tooth etc. which I personally find to be less than romantic.

Keep your proposal pretty simple and pretty short if you're anything like most people.

I'm pragmatic. At some point you should broach the subject with her, at least in general (but long before you propose since asking about views of marriage etc, esp. if for the first time, will set alarm bells ringing).

Best of luck to you.

I would take her down to lakeshore road and propose as the sun sets after a nice
though early dinner cause the sun sets around 7PM. So, 5:30 to 6:30, chat
on a parc on the water's edge, do the one knee thing and make sure she is facing
the water while you ask the question for the whole scenic impact.

If you have been to the water's edge, take her to the first place of
something on or near the water.
(Kiss, chat, holding hands, etc)

Use scenery to multiply the mood. Mother nature will be of great help
