Default Xbox 360 is junk, king of all junk, my 6th is now broken

Just started my 360 to play BF1943, oh noooo the 360 logo startup has lots of distortion and flickering squares, started a game and my fears have been confirmed, graphical artifacts. Very strange since it occurs when the machine has only startup. So this is my 6th, luckily when I purchased my Junkbox 360 I took out an insurance policy at GAME, thinking of course I would need it. Here is history of my Xbox 360s :

Number 1 : Would load forever when trying to load a Revenge Track, but other games would load but, tried 3 different burnout disks from the shop and all had same problem. Xbox 360 exchanged by GAME after 2 days.

Number 2: Xbox 360 would lock up and freeze on a number of games, after 8 weeks I had enough. Xbox 360 exchanged by GAME.

Number 3 : All my games started to get disk read errors within 1 week. Had enough, sent to microsoft.

Number 4 : Received a refurb from microsoft, dated Dec 2005. Lasted for 22 months, then RROD, returned to microsoft.

Number 5: Received a unit back from microsoft with same serial number, lasted for 2 weeks before RROD.

Number 6 : Recieved back another 360, took straight to game for a new Arcade and part exchange. Lasted 17 months.

Number 7 .... ?????

Just so i'm clear, my PS3 and 360 set on a huge desk with a TV, not in some box. My Dreamcast sits underneath.

Really this is pathetic junk, my PS3 is still going strong. I wonder if Watchdog would want me on their pathetic show. I have over 45 xbox 360 games and 30 XBLA games. It is really hard now to want anything further to do with this junk or spend another penny.

Regards,
D.

My elite rrod months ago. I think its just inevitable with the older 360 models. Funny how my ps1 and ps2 still runs strong and its been like forever with that two. My ps3 I can turn that on for days to no end and not be worried... with my 360 I get nervous after 2 hours. lol

I think the problem stems from MS underestimated the heat factor played in such a small box in a small amount of time trying to rush it to the market. This is also why laptops die faster than desktops, due to more heat in a smaller confined space. I believe the 360 was suppose to be alittle bit bigger but during the stage where they select possible prototype model candidates the one with better cooling got axed due to the smaller and sleeker look. I wouldnt mind a box the size of the original as long as it was much more reliable and quieter.

I agree with the OP. This is the most unreliable console I have ever seen. Most of my friends who have an xbox are either on their second or third box. Me Im on my forth. The only reason Im with xbox is because of their controller and game catalog.

and this is what happened to you afterwards?

it sounds like you just made a mistake when you took your console on a road trip.

I take mine back and forth to work sometimes. Never had a problem. Though it drives me nuts that my DLC and Arcade games are tied to that XBox so I have to take it if I play something DLC or an arcade game instead of just taking my Arcade.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the replaced the RROD with the E74 (general hardware fault)?

Dude. Just get rid of it. Sell your games on Goozex for points, get some more PS3 games that you'll like and perhaps the multiplatform counterparts, and be done with it.

If I had an experience this horrible with a piece of electronic equipment, I wouldn't put up with it any more. I'd be done with it by now.

The disc read errors, in my experience, are caused by heat (poor ventilation, or extended gaming sessions on older systems). Installing games to the HDD solves this problem. The heat causes the DVD drive (which is right overtop the heatsink) to have failures. The original Xenon and Zephyr boards have had quite a few problems. They also ran hotter and were more likely to get the disc read errors.

Falcon and Opus boards cut down drastically the number of hardware errors and Jasper even moreso.

It's very rare that someone goes through as many consoles how old were all your consoles?

Usually, I come in about 180 degrees opposite from you regarding the current consoles. However, if one of my two 360's bites the dust, it will be my 6th as well and I take incredibly good care of my equipment and the area around them. If I have one more failure, that unit will be sent in for repair (if still under warranty) and then stored or used simply as a DVD players for my Son's TV and I will replace it and all my games with PS3 hardware and games. I feel your pain on this one and it is frustrating that almost FOUR years after launch of the 360, there are still reports daily of units failing. I hope MS learns something from this with their next console and that any new hardware comes out with a 3 year warranty. Even with that, I think many will be leery of any new MS console hardware until it has some sort of history with run times without failure.

Good Luck with whatever decision you make....

I wish. That's one of the reasons I don't game anymore on the PC. String of bad luck on PC parts. Video cards and mobo's...
