Default am i the only one who doesnt like Guillermo del Toro?

I mean really? This guy isnt THAT great of a director. His movies are bland and never fullfill to their potential. I mean and give me a break with Ron Pearlman. We know he isnt a ****in academy award winner and yet people talk about him like he's the greatest thing since sliced bread. All he got apparently was a lucky break for del Toro having this like boyish crush on him and thus casts him in everything he does.
Lots of money, but honestly dismal failures.
But really i ask am i the only one who thinks this?

Pan's Labaryth?

He's got something going for him. Most of his stuff is Spanish anyway, so you probably havn't seen it :P

/Edit: Not saying I have seen them... I've only seen Hellboy, Pan's Labarynth and (maybe?) Blade.

Pan's Labyrinth is amazing.

I'd love to see more from him as his films are visually striking in a good way. Mainly due to the amount of crazy stuff they do with traditional make-up and animatronics. Probably my favorite part about his movies, insane amounts of imagination and the blending of heavy traditional effects with CGI in a not overpowering way.

I can't wait for At the Mountains of Madness. I do so hope he manages to be able to pull that one off and it doesn't run out of steam and fizzle as he's gotta get through the Hobbit movies first though.

In short. Guillermo owns. He's my homeboy.

His imagination is interesting (like that ogre in Hellboy II that was entrance to underground, or how death was looking). I like his movies.

Guillermo del Toro's movies are visually interesting. Much more so than any other I director that I can think of save maybe Tim Burton. And Ron Perlman was great as Hellboy.

Liked this work in the Hellboy movies and Blade 2. However, I did not like Pan's Labyrinth very much. Wasn't a bad movie, just not what I was expecting *shrug*. I havn't seen his other works though.

He has great flair for visual styling and capturing a scene. He's a little clunky in his approach to story flow in some respects, but it's more than made up for by the former.

i feel that most his movies have amazing potential but some how ruin it for me near the ends.
Pans Labryinth was visually stylish and so was the Hellboys, but i feel like they lack in.......plot.
I do think The Hobbit will be great with him since Peter Jackson is producing and will be writing, and since it comes from an even higher power (Tolkien) he's got an easy ride for this one.
I dunno, i just dont think he is that great really. Who here think Pearlman will be in the Hobbit?

he's a very visual director, the dude has great imagination and whoever designs these creatures and contraptions and machines is really interesting. I'm watching hellboy 2 and i'm floored by a lot of the stuff in here.

I can see why people don't like him though, plot is okay but starting with hellboy/2 you can see that it's just a popcorn flick, the humor is pretty bad and it's suppose to be a "fun ride". His story telling is iffy, again back to hellboy 2, it almost feels like blade 2 cheesiness ( which he directed).

He's produced some awesome stuff and pans labrynth was good but not great. He has great imagination and actually uses his budget. The cinematography is just okay. I guess if he didn't have the visual style he'd be another bland director.

he should just focus on the visuals and get someone else to work on the plot, etc

I find Guillermo del Toro very similar to Luc Besson and Micheal Bay, they need to find a executive producer who will narrow their focus.

I loved Pan's Labyrinth, and I usually don't enjoy Fantasy movies.
They found a great cast for that movie - some excellent acting.

His others movies are pretty good, but nothing really great.

I think he either has a knack for creature creation and set design, or knows how to hire the right people. In that respect he's very good. From a story aspect, no I do not think he's anything legendary.

I do like the Hellboy series overall for the effects, action, and I like the Hellboy twist on history. The acting is by no means inspiring, but I do enjoy watching Ron Pearlman play a badass.

Pan's Labyrinth was cool purely for the creatures, but the story is just frigin depressing.
