Default Errr....Buying a 360 & Need help with the VGA cable query

Alright, long story short, decided to a plunge for the 360 (finally!). Unfortunately, all I can afford for now is the core console. My major query is regarding the VGA HD AV Cable. How do I get this thing connected to my existing CRT monitor?

I know CRT's are ancient & they deserve to die....yada...yada...yada. I'll be getting a Full HD LCD in a few months though, so just let me know how the connection thing would work out on the existing monitor.

Thanks to all in advance.

I think you can select 4:3 resolutions, but you have a windows box effect, assuming your crt monitor is probably 4:3.

Its just a normal vga output cable and input on the monitor. Though some monitors have been known to have weird inputs.

You just need to pick the appropriate resolution from the list (probably 1024x768):
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x...defdetails.htm

Be warned that some games will add black bars to the top and bottom of the screen if you're using a 4:3 resolution.

That's an understatement, I'd say easily 90 - 95% of all games will have black bars - I used to have the vga cable and an "ancient crt" too.

Most games are made for 16:9 - even big screen hdtvs (older ones) and lcd's that are 16:10 have to deal with the black bars a lot.

Im assuming he wants to connect it to his CRT monitor which has no vga input port like LCDs. With the MS VGA cable it comes with an adapter that changes the gender on the CRT cable to a female. All you do is plug it up, set it to 4:3 and enjoy.

You got my query buddy.

I knew about the resolution set up part. It was only a connection query. I'm not sure how the VGA cable works, but I assume the VGA connector's end is probably a female port & so is my monitor's VGA cable end. Now if I don't have female to female converting cable cable, so that would be a bummer for me right?

Also do any 3rd party VGA HD AV cable too retail apart from the official MS ones?

Get the MS one. Better quality, visually - and if I remember correctly, MS is the only one to package a female/male adapter with theirs.

No worries. I'll see what I can get. Else will have to wait for my LCD to arrive & then game on it.

BTW I got myself an Arcade version & confirmed that it's the Jasper core. YIPPEE!

Here a few more queries along the line, obviously n00bish since I have never touched a Xbox 360 console, I would need as much help as possible.

1.) What size does the latest NXE update occupy? Since I have a 512MB built in memory (will upgrade to HDD later on) I'll need to know exactly how much space will it occupy?

2.) Do you get a Xbox Live Gold subscription for one month free at start?

3.) How much space does an average game save occupy?

4.) How long does the battery of the wireless controller last? Is there any indicator for the battery's health status?

5.) Does it support XviD movies via thumb drives?

I think your jasper has the 512MB built in. I think NXE takes up 128MBs.

not sure

Between 4.3-6.7GBs

The MS recharg kit usually lasts between 6-9 hours. It also factors how much force feedback a game uses (which can drain batteries quickly.) Some people say its better to use rechargeable AA batteries which can give up to 12 hours.
5.) Does it support XviD movies via thumb drives?

not sure on this, maybe someone else could chime in
.
I answered the ones in red text.

I think he was talking about savegames, not games installed to the hard drive. It's anywhere from 60KB to tens of megabytes, depending on the game, as well as whether it uses a single system file or multiple save files.
