I'd love to be on a plane that did that. ![]() This one time, coming back from Vegas, we landed at Ontario (Cali) airport, which is notorious for really strong cross-winds (there is a youtube vid of a UPS boeing 707 trying to land almost sideways), the plane we were on kept being buffeted by strong winds, and you could tell the pilot was earning his pay just to land the 737. It was awesome. Other people were freaking out a little, but I was having a blast. I even had to congratulate the pilot on the way out for such awesome flying in such adverse conditions.

Yeah, landing in Narita, Japan, mad winds, plane dropping 30 feet in a split moment... that was a hell of a ride. But that's one hell of a take-off...

passenger planes can handle incredible stresses. I remember watching on at an airshow doing all kinds of stunts, from Barrel roll, inverted low level flying, vertical, etc. Like watching a military fighter, it just needed alot more room to do it. ![]() |

Even passenger plane pilots fly differently when they don't have passengers. A lot of those pilots are ex-military and can't wait to take the kid gloves off and fly the plane as it was designed to be able to. This takeoff was quick, but well within what the plane can do. If you want to talk stresses, imagine bending the wings of the plane up from the tips until it approached resembling a horseshoe shape...that's exactly what they do to test the passenger jets during prototyping, they can take much more bend/load than you'd think....they're designed so that wing loading isn't even a factor when flying within what the controls will give you, under normal passenger/cargo load.
