Some concerning numbers, highlighting the reliance of the US chipmaking industry on Russia/Ukraine-based materials, are shared by the source. For example, market research group Techcet says that 90% of US semiconductor-grade neon supplies come from Ukraine, while 35% of US palladium is sourced from Russia. In addition, other vital materials like C4F6, Helium, and Scandium also come from the potential flashpoint region.

Just ordered a Sapphire Pulse RX 6800 for 1200$ / 1050 euro.
I will receive it in 7-10 days on special order.I saw the Vega 56 is selling in EU for 550 euro or more. That's more expensive than last month.I prefered to buy now then to see pricing rising because of war now.

Prices should go lower now that all silicon by major companies arent being sold or sent to the russian block. Leaving more inventory for us.

Prices will likely increase, even if Taiwan doesn't actually use Neon or other materials from Ukraine. Other more minor chips used on the cards made in other places might. So it can still be a problem.

Bit surprised at your choice given how you've eulogized about Ray tracing support and well the 6800 doesn't do too well. Also the price you've paid, in the UK the MRSP is supposed to be £599 so you're paying a 75% premium. Wow. Still at least you bought something and I get you're going to sell your Vega 56 to lower the cost.

Congrats on the purchase.

The 3080 consumes 320 watts and 6800 consumes 250watts.I am still in the same Vega56 power envelope. The electricity prices increased 4-5 times in my country.
Also another aspect is i looked deeper around and i am dissapointed overall with RTX implementation in current games. It's a mixed bag. Some reflections with very big FPS drop even on 3080 it's not worth the more money and higher power consumption and lower vram capacity.Overall i decided to let RTX go for now.
The paying premium will be offset by the selling of the vega56 at more 400 euros.

Later Update:
This will be ironic...
DLSS code leaking
https://wccftech.com/nvidia-dlss-sou...e-cyberattack/

If the above is true and AMD will actually learn something from this then the rtx experience will improve

The card arrived today. The unboxing gave me a feeling of scarcity. There was the card and two papers.Nothing else.I never felt this scarcity when unpacking a new gpu for some time.At this price point ... meh
The cooling is huge enough and silent in games.I cannot hear it over the case fans.
I am installing Metro Exodus Enchanced Edition and see how it goes ...

Man i was hoping to get lucky when i was searching for an RDNA2 card and catch one of them in stock but sadly that never happened.

Because the prices on the AMD shop are far more...normal.

You got lucky!

A friend and former rage gai also scored a 6700xt in todays pokins.

I had an hour as usual but stuck with it and actually got down to 15 minutes left before they sold out. Was the longest queue I've been in that sustained stock

I got my rx 6800 at msrp (for EU) for an AIB model at around 640 euro after offseting the Vega56 sale.
Many from EU can't buy from AMD.com

Using queue buster I was able to get a 6800XT yesterday too. I had two good tickets one was less than a minute but ended up erroring out with a reject message and the other one got me in under 2 minutes.

Prices overall are dropping as can be seen for AIB models on nowinstock. Probably several factors at work here. Demand dropping due to upcoming models, the ethereum merge getting closer taking pressure off supply from miners and overall supply possibly picking up a bit.

ATI Technologies Micro Center - Price Drops on Video Cards! $1,049.99 MSI RX 6900XT

Price Drops on Video Cards! $1,049.99 MSI RX 6900XT - Our lowest Price ever!

Received the following email from Micro Center. Paying $1049.99 after rebate is only $50 above MSRP and reasonable for a non-reference partner board (all things considered). So, I went ahead and purchased the damn thing. Just wanted to share for anyone else who may be interested. Ymmv depending on your location, of course.

Solid price for the card. Enjoy

I think sales are slowing down drastically due to the rising price of... Everything, especially with COVID lockdowns ending and summer coming. People aren't trying to spend $1500 on an overpriced GPU when they can use that to do something else.

Good point. I think there's several reasons for the price drop.

What is typical to pay over a reference design? Hasn't it always been around $100-200 over depending on the model?

Seems like $1050 is definitely a good deal to me and basically a 'normal' non-inflated price.

Thanks! And I agree with both of you.

Although, I have to say that I'm not at all happy about current prices. At the same time, I understand the supply & demand problem over the past two years. I'm just saying, MSRP pricing without the shortage isn't cool either. While inflation is to be expected, AMD and Nvidia have gotten beside themselves. Double performance doesn't necessarily equate to twice the price. There's no way that GPU's should cost $1000+ when just a few years ago damn good rigs were built in their entirety for ~$1500.
  • CPU: $350
  • MB: $150
  • RAM: $75
  • GPU: $500
  • PSU: $175
  • Case: $75
  • Monitor: $175
Sure, $25 could easily be added to each of those prices, but it still wouldn't be too far off from the normal MSRP for just one GPU from certain manufacturers. I find that really unfortunate.

I don't feel the same pride or excitement for this enthusiastic hobby I did just as recent as 5 years ago. I used to be super stoked to have all of the parts for an entire build laid out in front of me. Between sales and discounts, I would feel great about the overall price, sometimes even in disbelief for all the stuff I got as $1500/$1600 went a long way. Now, I just feel angry and robbed.

With the manufacturers well aware that we're willing to spend more, they've doubled-down on higher prices. So, while I do consider the price I paid to be reasonable in the grand scheme of things, I can't help but feel like I've contributed to the problem.

Anyway, I know I'm preaching to the choir as we all pretty much feel the same, but being an enthusiast sure isn't as fun as it used to be. We've all worked too damn hard to get shafted like this.

I paid 10% more than reference card for an after market card which I thought was reasonable as that's what I usually pay. TBH my experience with AMD reference cards is not good so 10% more is fine by me. I've never owned an Nvidia reference card so can't comment.

Prices on existing cards might be dropping because they want to clear the inventory channel of old cards before they launch the new ones which might still be very expensive if the performance rumours are true. We'll soon see..
