It says "Total Deaths 41, Total Recovered 38". So right now this thing has about a 52% mortality rate? Holy crap.

And that trend graph looks terrifying.

I think the percentages aren't going to be a great representation of mortality rate for a couple of weeks.

Initially it was low because there weren't as many cases reported for the virus when it was smaller and because the known cases were earlier on in their progression. Now it seems large given the recovered number, but it's likely that they're not "recovered" until they're entirely free of the virus, which depending on the incubation period, could just take a while - a large number of cases could be recovering and not at significant risk but not yet recovered.

Just there being 1400 cases and only 42 deaths is a good sign, but again this early on it's misleading - there's little doubt at least some who currently have it will die of it.

how much truth is there to the rumor that there is a biological weapons base or factory near the region of where the virus originated?

There's a BSL-4 (bio lab level 4) but I haven't heard anything about weapons, it's studying ebola and stuff.

or are you imaging some sort of captain trips like scenario?

The Chinese minister at the head of the National Health Council, Ma Xiaowei, said on Sunday that the ability of new corona virus to spread seems to be increasing. "We do not yet have clarity about the risks of the virus mutating further," said Ma. However, it seems that the danger that the virus poses to people from different age groups is shifting.

The incubation time of the virus, doped 2019-nCoV, is 1 to 14 days. In that period, in which the patient does not yet show any signs of illness, he can already infect other people. In this, 2019-nCoV differs from the Sars virus.

According to Ma, there is also much unclear about the origin of the new corona virus. "We can determine that it is possible that the pathogen comes from a wild animal," he said.
apparently taken from a live stream they have had going on for some time.

It appears to be a less lethal cousin of these viruses (again, not saying it's great, this isn't the point I'm trying to make right now).

The point I am making, and what I do think is interesting, is that China is doing ALL IT CAN to contain this right now. Or at least, appears to be. As are the rest of the governments of the world. IF this still spreads, it will tell us how effective our safeguards are against containing a similar but more deadly outbreak in the future. If we can't contain and quarantine this virus less lethal and scary virus, then if EBOLA 2.0 were to get out there, we're ****ed.

Just as precaution people need to grab some zinc supplements and stock on acyclovir and other anti virals. Gotta agree with the youtube its stupid for the gov to close down everything it just stops society from functioning at its optimal level.

But so far the death rate of ~2% vs confirmed infection rate (which should be a lot higher incubating) seems to be dropping so Id relax and see this as just another bad flu.
