Default How many of you only have SSDs in your PC?

Just wanted to see how many of you don't have any HDDs in your PC. If you only have SSDs in your PC, do you also download large files to the SSD(s)?

Have an NVME in my main rig, that's all for storage in there.

My notebook also has a 1TB 970 Evo in it, and nothing else.

My NUC has a 1TB 970 Evo as well.

My Nas array has Samsung 860 Pro's 1TB in it.

No more HDD's for me.

My personal rig has a 500GB Nvme drive for the OS, and a 2TB Nvme drive for games.

For storage, I have a dedicated box running HDDs in a pool using stabile bit drive pool for redundancy.

Haven't had an old platter harddrive for the last 5 years. The previous PC build, did have platter drives for my main storage but the OS drive was SDD.

Nothing but Samsung evos in my main rig or laptop. The last platter drive I bought bit the dust after a month or so.

Is there any issue with downloading large files (around 10 GB) on a daily basis from the Internet to an SSD?

Yeah in my PC I still use 2x WD 7200RPM spinning drives for file storage.

Then there's a Samsung PM863 960GB for games, and an old 120GB Corsair Force GT for the OS install. Just been lazy to upgrade the spinning drives to SSD, but really no need since just for storage.

I just replaced a 5 year old 1TB WD Blue with a 2TB Samsung Evo 860 since Samsung was having a sale on SSD's and most of them were about 30-40% off.

I have a couple of microPCs that can only fit 1 drive so obviously that's an SSD.

But for my desktop I only have an SSD for boot and system files. My Home directory is on HDDs. I use symlinks to move games to my SSD when I play them, and then move them back to the HDD when I'm done with them.

It's a waste of money to buy a giant SSD. There's no real benefit to having all your media files on a SSD. My entire OS and installed programs is on a 256GB SSD and there's still enough room for about 90GB of unpartitioned space.

I'd say we are right at that tipping point where 1Tb and larger SSD's finally got cheap enough that people are probably going to start going SSD only in desktops.

Personally still have a 4Tb HDD as my main data drive and 250gb SSD as the main OS drive. But I built this rig years ago *shrug*

Been using hybrid drives for some time but the latest rig drive is a nvme plus a 4tb platter hitachi hgst which is probably the last platter Ill ever buy tho it was dirt cheap. Next rig planned for pcie 4 or 5 and 4 channel ddr5 in 2-3 years will be all nvme.

The system I'm using has 2 NVME drives and that's it.

2TB Samsung 970
512GB Samsung 950 Pro.

I do have about 8TB of external 7200RPM drives that are used for backing up art projects.

Main (8700K) - 1 NVMe (OS), 4 SSDs (games, etc.), and 2 internal HDDs (one for individual file backups, one for system images)

Secondary (7820X, soon to be 3800X) - 1 NVMe (OS) and 4 SSDs (everything else)

Won't be tossing the hard drives out of my main anytime soon, but I gotta say it's really nice not ever hearing any drive noise whatsoever coming from the spare.

Mechanical hard drives are for salvaging powerful magnets, nothing more.

Once you go SSD you can never go back. I have 2 nvme and 2 SSDs in my system. I only have an old HDD connected through a USB externally as it's where I keep "important stuff" that I've had forever...

I've been using SSDs on my computers since 2012. I still have big HDD for archive, but rarely use them.

My desktop uses a 2TB SSD for games and applications but hard drives for the rest of the storage (2x4TB, a 10TB, 12TB and 14TB) because at the moment SSD's are not cost effective for high density.

My laptops are all SSD only and have been for some time.
