Not especially surprised that 35 WPC is sufficient. A normal human shouting at the top of their lungs is only about 6W. I doubt any acoustic instruments are much more than that. Most are probably less. At any rate, you probably wouldn't want to sit in front of something that loud for very long.

Haha, didn't know that humans can only produce 6W. I would have though certain people (like my parents) can produce at least 100W.

Had to sell all my old stuff, but purchased new better stuff. 47" Vizio 3d-TV, Onkyo HTiB, PS3. Eventually I'll build a HTPC, but between the TV apps, PS3, and PS3 Media Server I'm in no rush. Definitely not getting cable again that's for sure...

Yea the pics are dim, that's the way we like to keep it in the room most of the time. The speakers sound pretty good but I'd like to get some better ones some day.

We wanted more floor space and the wife wanted to replace the DLP with an LCD hung above the fireplace. I was concerned about it being too high but I was pleasently surprised that it doesn't bother us at all. An extra bonus is that it is out of the way of the kids.

I think it is nice, you can lay back and still see it fine. Good idea about keeping it out of kids finger prints after they eat BBQ. LOL

Speaking of keeping it out of the kids way, I came home from work about 30 minutes ago and what do I see on the coffee table? One of the kids Touchpads laying there with crayon written all over the screen
It came off pretty easy with clorox wipes but if it would have been the tv I would have went off.

First pic (not sure why it isn't embedding): http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/sto...%20001.JPG

Display: Panasonic TH-42PW5
DVD Player: Pioneer DV610AV-K
A/V Receiver: Harman Kardon AVR 8500
Mains: Klipsch RF-7
Center: Klipsch RC-7
Surrounds: Klipsch RS-7
Subwoofer: Seaton Sound SubMersive

I am planning on adding the Sunfire TGA-7401 amplifier and using my current A/V receiver as a pre/pro. Can't wait and it should make a significant difference because my speakers love power.

Alright, I'm finally set for quite a while. New Panny ST60 plasma & new Sony STR-DN1040 1155 watt receiver hooked to HSU HB-1 MKII fronts, an HC-1 MKII center (sitting on the shelf below the television), a HSU STF-2 sub, and 4 small satellites for surround.

Dynaudio Focus 110 (speakers)
Marantz SR5002 (using only as DAC)
Parasound HCA-1000 (amp)
SVS PB12-NSD (subwoofer - see table under lamp)

I'm planning to replace the Marantz with a Buffalo III DAC that I'm building

The sound is awesome, but I like to keep an understated decor.

The only issue here is that watts are a measure of energy, not volume. Efficiency can play a large part in volume and also the type of sound being output. For example, much less energy is required to output a loud high frequency than a comparatively quiet low frequency because of the amount of air that must be moved to produce the noise. That is why LFE channels require substantially more power than mid/high range speakers. Try using a 35W amp on a 15" sub and let me know if it's sufficient...

how many channels are you looking at having? atmos is out of the question without drastically sacrificing quality, 7.1 is doable, 5.1 is a bit easier

even easier if you look for used or refurb units... also easiest thing to skimp a little on is the sub... one that isn't great but will give you boom and rumble while going with better speakers is better than going with lesser speakers for a slightly better sub and you can always upgrade the sub later

you can also consider skimping a little on the surrounds... the front speakers (left/right/center) should always be the best you can get then consider the other things as possible upgrades... so for example going 5.1 maybe get smaller, less expensive surrounds... later you can upgrade them and use the smaller units to expand to 7.1

also is this $1000 for just the speakers or are we including the receiver in this? because that will be one area where older discontinued models, refurbs, and used REALLY need to be considered for the price range

and avoid HTIBs
