The 12.1 Driver installs but gives and install error about install source issue but when I reboot all games play great I do not see the new profile set for 3D games. Is this a Windows 7 only function and Crossfire setup only>? Thanks PEACE

I just ordered two HIS 4670 AGP cards to replace a dying AIW9700 Pro and 9800 Pro. Two questions: What is the general concensus on the best driver to use for a balance of new and old games? I play lots of Quake 2 especially. Where can this version be downloaded? I've read the whole thread, and early on it looks like the 10.4s were a winner, and I saw the link to the russion site that has an archive, but they don't go back that far. Current verison is 12.3 on AMD's site. Thanks, -Alan -EDIT- For anyone in a similar situation, it looks like Softpedia has the older versions. Can't tell yet, but so far looks legit. Only problem with their site is, its layout is poor. There are several "download" links on each page, and it can be tricky figuring out which one to click for the driver. The other download links will download other software. Last edited by FirebirdTN : May 6, 2012 at 10:11 AM. Reason: adding info |

HEy cuz, I am currently on the 12.3's on XP and Windows 7. I play old games too and yes original half life, quake 2, quake 3, Clive Barker's Undying plays fine with these. Also Unreal all the way to UNREAL 3 play great. I can play HL2, Stalker, Serious SAM HD at 1600x1200 with no AA of course but they run fine for this again system. Smooth frame rates. The Rambus RAM helps. I also run DEAD SPACE 1 and 2 with no issues. I picked up Jericho and that was fun, the Mercury engine really looks good, but the monsters got boring and repetitive. I had issues with the later 10.5 to 11.2's but now these run fine. I wont be updating past this 12.3 set, unless I but a new game that needs it. But I like updating heh. PEACE

Hey MIXXX, I was hoping you would chime in-After reading this whole thread, you have become my "standard" to look to when it comes to this card and drivers LOL. I was a tad nervous, as I have read all the various issues and headaches with this card that some have had, but in all honesty, I didn't have any issues. I tried a few different driver versions, and all have worked no problem for me (thankful for that). I currently settled on the 11.8s. I may give the 12.3s a go, but so far most everything is working great. Only issue I have, and its a system thing and not a diver, is I have the yellow exclamation point in device manager next to the Microsoft UAA driver saying it can't find free resources to start. So no Audio over HDMI for me. I can live with that since everything else works great, and being able to even hook the PC up to the HDTV via HDMI is pretty darn cool (even if it doesn't have audio). Thanks, -Alan |

Glad those drivers are stable for you. Sometimes you just stick with what works. I have tried other sets in the past and when they did not work, I always went back to like the 9.12's or 10.4's. But I went a couple of months with 11.2's then to 12.1 and now 12.3. So far so good. But I think the Direct3D portion of the driver has always worked well with my titles, so I am happy. Glad I could chime in, ![]() PEACE

I had a bad experience using the latest drivers. My primary hard drive recently failed, and I decided to replace it with an SSD and upgrade to Windows 7. I started out with the 12.3's, and Windows 7 kept freezing and shutting down at random. I then tried a few other driver sets (in the 11.* range) and the same thing was happening. Only after installing the 10.6 drivers, has it been stable. Last edited by Genghis Thom : May 10, 2012 at 01:35 PM. |

Thats unfortunate I remember the 10.6's did not work with Quake 3 titles but I waited until the 11.2's to solve that issue. Glad your new install is working PEACE

I placed the atioglxx.dll from the 10.4 drivers onto the game folders for my Quake III and Doom3 based games. Have had no noticeable problems with them. |

Yes That was the workaround until the updated 11.2's I think contained the fix for OpenGL extension limit. Always gotta play some Quake III for a quick fix PEACE

Recently I haven't had problems installing the latest drivers on my AGP 3850. I only install the driver files, though.

AMD continues to post these AGP driver updates like they actually work for the 4600 series. Ridiculous, to say the least AMD. At least say you are not supporting AGP anymore. Simple as that, but you make yourself look foolish at best publishing these "non-supported" drivers. At least you have made my next upgrade a fairly easy choice when it comes to the video card. Absolutely r-i-d-i-c-u-l-o-u-s. . |
