It is a step forward but still far from what I consider fair. basically, it should be so that if you get banned from a game due to cheating then it should stay within that game. It should not affect anything else in terms of purchasing new games. Though anything related to that specific game should be banned.

i don't think the op understands what has happened at all.

if you get vac banned from a multiplayer game for cheating, you will not be able to play any multiplayer game using that same engine. you will still be able to play everything else in your account.

this change applies to steam account bans. that only happens if you do something like using a stolen credit card or bypassing region locks or something like that. for that, valve used to completely disable the steam account and make all the games unplayable. now they've changed it to allow access to the games that were already bought, but those accounts cannot buy new stuff.

getting banned from a game doesn't mean you lose the ability to buy new games. the thread title is completely wrong.

Cheating results in a VAC ban, not a Steam account ban, so this isn't really about cheating.

Despite what a few loud people would make you believe, in actually I think Steam account bans are exceedingly rare and are generally limited to stuff like an account being tied to credit card fraud or getting caught using a VPN to bypass regional restrictions/pricing.

As such, this is largely a non-issue that has no impact on the vast, vast majority of Steam users that will never fear a ban.

yeah as the two above pointed out, this pertains to fradulent activites on the account, not cheating within a game.
