Pitty is still being judged by the masses

Default On what planet is a gtx680 cheaper than a 7970 ?

I must have read about 10 reviews on all the major hardware sites that say the GTX680 is cheaper than a 7970.

They say it's faster, uses less power and is cheaper.

Every single site that sells the GTX680 it is $100-150 more than a 7970.

So i'm sending a big fat HMMMMMMM out to the internetz, and asking what planet are the reviewers on.

Hardware Canuks
The HD 7970 may not be too high on enthusiasts' radars these days but MSI is hoping the newest member of their Lightning series will stand out from all of the other cards on the market. It may have a steep price of $600 but its features are unique and the clock speeds are high so this may be worth the premium over NVIDIA's GTX 680.
AMD’s competition of course is the recently launched Radeon HD 7970 and 7950. Priced at $550 and $450, the GTX 680 sits right in between them in terms of pricing. However with regard to gaming performance the GTX 680 is generally more than a match for the 7970
I could go on and on with the quotes from all the major harware sites, but i'm sure you get the idea.

GeForce GTX 680 is now the fastest single-GPU graphics card, and not by a margin that leaves room to hem or haw. Making matters worse for AMD, the GTX 680 is priced right between its Radeon HD 7970 and 7950.
Hot Hardware
Now for what some of you will likely consider the best news of all. NVIDIA has set the MSRP of the GeForce GTX 680 at $499. We dinged AMD for not pushing the price vs. performance envelope much with the Radeon HD 7000 series, so it’s only fair that we give NVIDIA props for doing it with the GeForce GTX 680. While $499 isn’t cheap, it’s much more palatable than the $549+ of the Radeon HD 7970
