Folding@home Team Rage3D Weekly Update: Jan 29 - Feb 4

This news item is part of a weekly set of updates to raise awareness and encourage participation in Rage3D's Folding@Home team. Folding@home is a distributed computing project created by Stanford that simulates how proteins form, fold, and mis-fold in the body. Running folding@Home allows you to donate your own computer's processing power to help better understand and develop cures for diseases that include cancer, Alzheimer's, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, Huntington's, and Parkinson's.

Let's start by jumping straight into the numbers:

Between Jan 29 and Feb 4, Team Rage3D:
  • Maintained its position at #29 in Total Points with 1,020,868,352 Points
  • Completed 7,662 Work Units (WUs) which is down -43.9% from the week before,
  • Earned a total of 9,372,252 Points which is up +1.4% from the week before,
  • Averaged 1223.2 Points Per WU which is up +98.0%% from the week before,
  • Averaged 1,338,893.1 Points Per Day (PPD) which is up +1.4% from the week before, and
  • Averaged 108.3 Active Users with a -1 change trend.

We can see a continuing trend of more points for fewer WUs which indicates that are still a few clients out there sending in dead WUs. Hopefully this will continue to work itself out as these clients are fixed. Otherwise in the last week we saw a steady, if modest, increase in production.

On the Team Radar we can see a little bit of shuffling from last week: "The Tech Report" has slipped off of our future conquest while at the same time we added "HPCS" and "xtremesystems.org" to the list of targets. On the Threat side we see "OcUK" is mere days away from overtaking us and knocking us another slot down the rankings with several other teams only a few months away. While it's nice that we have so many teams on our Conquest list the truth still remains that at our current rate we will overtaken by at least two other teams before we reach any teams ourselves.
