Windows 7 start menu artifacts

I experienced some artifacts recently (one time, I was not able to see all the words, such as "Documents" reading "Docum", and "Device and printers" reading "Devic", with the rest cut off).

Another time I was able to see right through the transparent glass in a few areas (I use aero). Both times I had to reboot to solve the issue, but I wonder if turning off aero would've fixed it too?

Sorry if this sounds strange, but this is the best as I can describe.

EDIT -- I posted here in case of a possible driver issue, but it probably should be in Operating Systems.

usually artifacts are caused by heat or a damaged card.

with a reboot fixing them? doesnt seem likely

these look like bad data (particularly seeing through aero), either from vram or regular ram (or a separate glitch like bad code)

had same issue since I installed Cat 9.10. Now is not that frequent, but with 9.9 it was 100% ok.

Yep, I never noticed this with Cat 9.9, although I can't seem to reproduce the issue lately with Cat 9.10.

Just happened again, only this time nothing appeared on the right-hand side of the start menu (no "Documents", no "Pictures", no "Music", no "Computer", no "Games", etc).

I then went into start menu properties and disabled "aero peek", and all my items came back. If it happens again, I want to try disabling aero all together and see what happens.
