I noticed that.... Diablo 2 was several gigs as I recall. I'm thinking that the difference is that Diablo 2 had several FMV cutscenes, and I'm betting those made much of the difference.

I'm thinking you're right. The file in Torchlight with most of the media is only 633 ish MB. The only difference between this game and a lot of AAA releases is, as you mentioned, there are fewer FMV sequences.

Some interesting mods people have been making and TorchEd hasn't even been released yet. This mod replaces the Alchemist's imps with little mechanical eyebots.

Not sure about the hardcopy, though I know they've been talking about porting a version for the 360 I think. Which with the OGRE engine should be relatively straight forward. As for the mods, it's amazing what they've done already without the actual Editor.

Here's another vote for Dungeon Siege 2.... err... and Sacred 1, but only because i think Sacred 1 is what Diablo 2 should have been. Go with Dungeon Siege 2

Ok... Found something I don't like about Torchlight. The final boss is way, way too powerful. In "Hard" difficulty, it must have over a million hit points - literally.

I pounded on it for tens of thousands of damage, barely scratched him, and got killed. I repeated this cycle about ten times, and eventually got his health down to around 50% over the course of an hour. Then on my most recent trip, the cutscene kicked in, and the fight re-started with the boss again at full health. WTF??? There's no way I'm re-playing the boss fight until a patch balances things a bit.

Ok... Wanna save me the trouble of digging through the thread and tell me how to respec different skills? Also, though I don't use spells (the kind you buy/find) very often, how does one level them up?

And what was the deal with having to restart the whole fight over again?

And finally, I found a YouTube video with the following author text:

Quote:
This is my second character. My first run was with a Destroyer at normal difficulty. I used that char (65lvl) to full enchant this vanquiser(42lvl), in order to casualy beat the last boss...maybe i overdid it
What is meant by "enchanting" a character with another?

They are two chests, one is just for your character and second is shared one, if you put in shared something, it can be used by your other character, it will change its lvl req. to be used by other character.
Spells (on paper) can have level raised by putting points in offensive magic skills in talent tree, not sure if its works correctly.

NOTES ON THE PATCH! PLEASE READ!

SUPER-IMPORTANT! YOU MUST USE A PATCH FROM THE VENDOR YOU PURCHASED FROM! Each vendor has their own DRM solution, and none are compatible. If you purchased from Steam, you'll need the Steam patch , and so on.

This if a FULL REINSTALL. The packaged files for the patch changed entirely to improve loading times, so a full reinstall is necessary.
If you are patching, you'll need to uninstall your previous version.

BACK UP YOUR SAVE GAMES! Your uninstaller may ask you if you want to delete your save games. Make sure that it is UN CHECKED!
If you want to be extra safe, you can manually back up your saves - I'd recommend this. Better safe than sorry!
Start->run

%appdata% and press return

Then browse to Runic Games\Torchlight\Save - and back up all the files there.

in case you are like me and didn't put your points initially where you want them, someone from Runic was nice enough to create a "reset talent points potion" mod, kinda an unoffical offical patch

Awesome, the fullscreen flickering/misalignement issues have been fixed, plus the game loads about twice faster.

I noticed that when enchanting items, it tells you the probability of losing all enchantments as a result. I think that's new with the patch.

Did they update it so that if you lose all enchantments is scales down the cost of reenchanting. "Oh, we lost all your enchantments for 1500 gold. Now it will cost you 1500 gold to reenchant it." "What?"

This game is hardcore with making it near impossible to make any money:
"I will buy that rare from you for 160 gold."
"Sure, that sounds like a lot."
"Here, want to buy this rare for 2100 gold?"
"Wtf, I just sold that to you for 160 gold."
"Mark ups a bitch."

They probably did that to balance enchanting a bit.
