Default Need help with network setup (WRT54GL, 360, wireless bridge)

So I have a WRT54GL running DD-WRT acting as my main router on the main floor.

I have a Comstar router upstairs acting as a wireless bridge. (this model http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...0117842&catid=)

My 360 is connected to said Comstar router via ethernet.

I have the Comstar acting as a wireless bridge joined to the main router's wireless network. Both are broadcasting the same SSID on the same channel (no WDS), using WPA2-AES for security.

Problem is every time I turn on the Comstar router, something screws up DNS resolution and the only fix is to manually assign each device's IP address, subnet mask, gateway, and DNS server (set to the address of the main router). This applies to both wireless and wired devices to either router.

Everything seems to work well enough except I tried hopping on xbox live today and it gave me an issue about having my NAT setting set to Moderate and it should be Open. I have UPnP enabled and the two ports required for xbox live properly forwarded. AFAIK there's no selection to set NAT type in either router's config pages.

Any clues as to what the problem may be?

If the Comstar is acting as a bridge, make sure it's internal DHCP Server is disabled.

hmm, would it still be able to distribute addresses to other devices connected to it?

If it's acting as a true Bridge, then yes. It should pass the DHCP from the WRT54GL.

No surprises here, you were absolutely right, Dr Z.

Everything seems to be working 100% properly now!

Thanks a bunch!
