Default Can't Enable 1280x800 in my laptop using new drivers!

Hey guys,

I am no linux master but I have a screen resolution dilemma. I can not for the life of me enable 1280x800 using the new drivers 8.16.20.

My setup:
Ubuntu 5.04
Emachines 6805 w/64 MB radeon 9600

Have you tried without the Modeline and DisplaySize options? If 1280x800 is reported by the screen to the driver it should work automatically. Post your X log too please.

Hmm,

It looks like a missed corner case. Could someone affected open up a bugzilla and all those affected post which system they are using. If we can get a trend from the affected systems we may be able to resolve it easily. Please CC me when the bugzilla is created.

Likewise is anyone having any other modes that are not detected/usable? 1280x800 seems to be the only one that I am seeing reported - and also one of the few modes that I used to not see too much about it.

ATI Technologies Bug opened

The bug is opened, this verrrrrrrrry bad man.... The wxga laptops have this for maximum resolution.... at 1024x768 is all so horrible. With the other drivers it was working.
In fglrxconfig there's not even the option of 1280x800

Angry Man....

For crying out loud... if ur solving this bug, please tell us..... in the bugzilla the bug is still untouched.... I give a kidney to get this fixed!!!

The bug is opened, this verrrrrrrrry bad man.... The wxga laptops have this for maximum resolution.... at 1024x768 is all so horrible. With the other drivers it was working.
In fglrxconfig there's not even the option of 1280x800
WXGA is 1366x768, please note that the only LCD resolution that I have heard having a problem. All others seem to be handled well. 8.16 change the display management completely. So we have effectively traded a large number of issues for a smaller subset of issues. Unfortunately this is one of them.

As indicated above, the platform name (Vendor, Model, Video, LCD-Res) is critical information.

Also note that the native panel resolution is the prime are of concern for myself.

Thanks for the responses...as soon as I get home from work I will post as much information as I can find on this Emachines laptop.

btw, it worked fine with 8.14 with that exact same xorg.conf

also running config again did not fix the problem.

There were a lot of display changes in this release, so as Matthew said, they just missed a corner case most likely.

I'm guessing though that your monitor is not correctly reporting EDID resolutions, and so X is falling back to its default modes, which probably doesn't include 1200x800. Why the modeline is being ignored though, I have no idea. Your Xorg.0.log might be helpful.

No EDID info for your screen... how retro This is the reason you don't get your resolutions automatically. Guess you'll just have to wait until next release for this one, until ATI can fix the modeline problem. If it is a big problem, you should probably revert to 8.14.

Interesting, was not aware of that about LVDS. Sounds workable, as long as the BIOS is correct.

True... but, for now, that's how things seem to work. I'm all in favour of an all-digital solution, but let's face it, (x86) PCs are a bag of legacy components wrapped in new fancy technology. The price for "backwards-compatible" I guess.

I can't run 1400x1050 after installing the new drivers - that's jut on my desktop with a Samsung 900DF.

It worked fine before, and as far as I can tell, no modeline or horizonal/vertical refresh entries were changed.

(quite a few) I've never seen any EDID info from the panel...

My laptop runs 1400x1050 fine (NEC LavieRX)... can you post your Xorg.0.log? Since you are running a CRT, I assume that it is reporting correct EDID info to the driver.The problem is probably that the monitor doesn't report the 1400x1050 mode, and any modeline you might have is probably ignored by the current driver. My Samsung 17" CRT works fine BTW, but it only goes up to 1280x1024, so I cannot try 1400x1050 for you.

ATI Technologies Please Listen to me

Some Laptops, most of them, dont have EDID information... In my case Xorg.0.log says it doesnt has any EDID info. HE only detects modes 1024x768 and lower.
The stupidity is that the modelines don't work... in my little brain if any modeline is specify THE DRIVER MUST READ IT.... That's why i luv open source, there's much more respect for the software.

As I stated elsewhere, I suffer from the same problem, with the same video chipset and the same panel (LTN1451 SXGA). A previous driver had no trouble at all using Xorg's modeline subroutines to force 1280x800 detection; this one does.

I was looking for this problem with google and I find this topic.
So I have the same problem.
I can't get my 1280x800 native resolution, instead I'm always in 1024x768, whatever I write in xorg.conf...
Laptop : PackardBell M7262 (1280x800 screen size)
So I'm currently using the previous drivers (8.14.13) who work fine.

I have a Uniwill 258KA0 and spend the better part of a day monkeying with mode lines. I'm glad it wasn't me.

I downloaded the older 8.14.13 driver and it's working fine.
