Not sure what the research might say, but I have an impression that humans vary considerably with regard to how they tolerate and/or crave alcohol. Personally, I like to have a drink or two every now and then, but I have no idea how others need to have a drink to start the day; that sort of dependency isn't in my genes. I'm having a beer right now, but honestly wouldn't miss it that much if I never had it again.
That said... I'd suggest trying a variety of different types of alcohol... wine, beer, brandy, spirits, etc... and see what you like. A shot of chocolate liqueur can go well with a meal. But perhaps you'll find alcohol just isn't for you at all....
