Ps. Im not arguing steam vs x store etc. I'm just saying read the article, there is WAY more than just taking 30% cut for "nothing". I do wonder if other companies (R*, Bethesda etc) does take traffic into account etc.
It doesn't matter how you try to justify it. Valve has had obscene amounts of money rolling in, and they haven't had to do that much to earn it. The cost of upkeep of Steam is tiny compared to the profits generated. They even brag about having the highest profits per employee of any tech company (frankly, not a smart thing to admit to).

All the other companies have certainly been running cost/benefit on hosting their games directly for years. It's starting to look like Valve didn't play their cards right. They should have priced themselves low enough to prevent other companies from deciding it was worth the hassle to compete with them.
