Since upgrading to 7850 got BSOD quite often
Hi,
I have finally decided to ditch my 5770 CFX rig, too much heat in the summer also one of the cards was starting to make a lot of noise. So, now after upgrading cards, uninstalling drivers and reinstalling 12.4 I get BSOD once per day... and usually when I am not at the pc! Apparently its happening in one of the graphic drivers. If I set my pc to turn off display after 20 minutes I don't even get to see the BSOD cause its all dead. Any ideas here? Never got much BSOD before, I am quite disappointed here. |
Did you do a clean reboot of windows?
If not what card did you have before, and did you clean the old drivers completely? Every time i install some new catalyst drivers i do the following, i run 2 programs after the reboot. 1: driver sweeper 2: driver cleaner pro then i reboot and install the new drivers again. also what psu do you have, just to make sure it deliveres the sufficient power. |

I will try the driver sweeper, installing 12.6 and report. On the side note, there ought to be 12.7 beta, how to get it? |
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx
you just pick desktop graphic - radeon hd serie - radeon hd 7xxx series pcie - you operating system "Os" then there comes a page where you chose cataslyst 12.7 beta that are the second thing to download on the page, the 12.6 are whql drivers tested by microsoft. hope that helps. |
Interesting, I couldn't find the link in blog, but I didnt expect it there. Hence I didnt even check.
Btw, drivercleaner step I do know, but is that even relevant when upgrading from amd to amd? It seems weird. Also BSOD's are totally strange since I have never in my life had such frequent BSOD's. Except if its another hardware and masks as amd driver. edit: So this? http://phyxion.net/item/driver-sweeper.html Seems kinda shady to me, no references no nothing. Just some big buttons. edit2: Also dunno if I mentioned, I only get bsod while afk! Is there any way to turn off amd phenom clock control? In later versions of CCC it is there, but I have some utilities that can do that much better. edit3: After a good 1 day of upgraded drivers to 12.7 everything is fine. Not one bsod for now. edit4: Definetely the drivers. 12.4. Don't use em on 7xxx series. Is all fine now after upgrade to 12.7, no need to use sweeper even. |
