Good time to buy a GPU?

I'm looking at spending ~$300 on a gpu, and I'm seeing several Radeon 580 options. Is there dramatically better stuff releasing next month that will make me hate myself for buying this?

If you want an AMD card, prob not too bad. I don't think they have anything coming out for a while.

On the Nv front, this is a horrible time to buy.

The rumor right now for AMD is you won't see anything until March 2019 that will be "Next GEN". Maybe a Polaris refresh refresh refresh.

On the Nvidia side rumor is between now and October.

Honestly... if your rig can house/power it a used R9 290 can be had for ~$100 and will perform like a 580 or 1060.

Thanks everybody. I went ahead and ordered the 580. Can't wait for it to come in!

  Nope. I figured I'd finish building my new rig before I updated there, and the GPU is the last component I need.

Currently rocking:
Ryzen 2600x
16 gigs ram
bla bla bla...

ASRock had theirs bundled with a B350 motherboard for free. (580 8G).. Coulda bought the card, sold the board and gotten an RX580 8G for MSRP or slightly below it.

Well, looks like the price has dropped $50 since I bought it over the weekend. I'm still waiting for it to be shipped.

Can you cancel and rebuy, or just start a return? $50 is probably a lot more than return shipping.

I think they have a restocking fee too. In the end, I just don't have time to deal with it this week.

Yeah, I can understand that. Sometimes trying to pinch every last penny just ends up wasting more time than it's worth. I need to try working on that myself. :p

Yup. Ultimately I was willing to buy it at that price. Maybe next time I'll buy from Amazon instead of newegg though.
