I fear for your itty-bitty TV stand. :(

NissanNazi Oct 26, 2007 09:02 AM

Why? The TV actually weighs less than the TV that use to be on it. I'd say this TV weighs about 50lbs at most and the old one was about 90lbs. I've actually stood on the stand before and I weigh 175lbs

ScottDoom Oct 26, 2007 11:55 AM

We have that same exact Scientific Atlanta DVR. Also, is that an HD-DVD add-on for the 360 you have there? How well does that work, and can any stand-alone HD-DVD players be had for a bit more?

I've actually never browsed through Blu-Ray/HD-DVD players and I think it's about time we get one. We already have a 360 so I was wondering if tacking on the HD-DVD extension was worth it.

NissanNazi Oct 26, 2007 02:06 PM

Scott that is the Add on you see there. I've only owned it for about 4 days now but I really like it. The picture is superb and it's so easy to setup with the 360. I believe you can now find a stand alone Toshiba unit for $198 at Wal-Mart but if you already have a 360 I'd go with the add on just because the cheaper of the stand alones won't do full 1080p. I got mine for $105 used at EB Games because I traded an extra copy of Forza 2 I had. You can get them used normally for $130 or new for $179 I believe. So far I've watched 300, Transformers, King Kong, and Troy on HD-DVD all of them looked fantastic. Only downfall I've heard to the add on is that supposedly it won't do TrueHD sound BUT on my system the option is there I just don't have a receiver capable of processing it so I don't know if it doesn't work or not. Either way you can still do DTS and Dolby Digital which sound just fine on my setup. Hope that helps.

Here is a new pic of my setup I upgraded my old Sony receiver to an Onkyo SR605 and I ditched the tiny satallite fronts and put in 4 way floor standing speakers. I can't believe the difference in audio quality :) I have a better TV stand on order just waiting for FedEx to drop it off sometime this week.

Here is my bedroom setup 32" lcd connected to my pc. Mainly for streaming Netflix movies.

This is the best picture I have of my current setup. There's a speaker behind the Christmas tree.

LG 32" LCD (32LC2D)
Yamaha YHT-370 surround sound system
Some cheap OTA HD antenna
Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, Motorola DVR

You have no idea how awesome it was when I figured out I could label the audio inputs on my receiver.

I like the setup well enough. Anything bigger would really be overkill for my apartment right now. The only real complaint I have is that I have a lot of remote juggling. The DVR remote handles most things, but it can't change inputs (on the TV or receiver), and for some reason it won't power on/off the receiver (though it does adjust volume).

You're just jealous because we have the most awesome Christmas tree ever :bleh:

DeathKnight Nov 28, 2007 10:21 PM

Recently got the Onkyo 605 (see sig for full home theater specs). I'm kind of in the market for a new LCD (37"+ and 1080p), but I think I'm going to hold off on that for a bit to see if I can't get any good deals for under $1000 on something decent.

Sorry no pics as of right now due to broken leg and messy room. I do however have a nice32" flat screen crt style tv. I am using component video for the xbox which is moded. I play all my movies threw the xbox and i have the Logitech z-5500 speaker system. I built all my RCA cables for the speakers using a high grade RG-6 coax cable. I hate paying for my cables so i build me own. I am buying a projector soon so i will have that up in runnin hopfuly in the summer. gotta pay for school first. To be honest, i am very pleased with the z-5500 sound system. The 10" sub at 190 wats rms is nice. specially for 300$

The sound system i am currently building is this
AVR 635 Harmon/Kardon
subwoofer 36"H x 21"W x 36"Deep ( used in a PA setup)http://www.guitarcenter.com/EAW-LA40...28-i1171677.gc
Sub Harmonic synthesizer http://www.guitarcenter.com/dbx-120A...87-i1125312.gc
Sonic Maximizer (like the 24 bit crystallizer on x-fi)http://www.guitarcenter.com/BBE-882i...88-i1125106.gc
JBL or Harmon studio monitors EQ flat http://www.guitarcenter.com/JBL-LSR-...84-i1152810.gc
thats all i got so far

I had to take three pictures and merge them to get the back of my room. :( Yes it's messed up but at least you can see my sitting arrangement and why I ***** about 6.1 all the time.

The front... I'm not showing the left Cerwin Vega speakers and JBL sub as they are off to the side. And the perspective makes it look like the right speaker is next to the TV when it's not. It's several feet.

are those expensive setups safe with your toys there? what if your playing with them and they fly and smash that nice big tv screen :bleh: :(

It's actually a defensive barrier. :bleh:

Edit: I also have all front panel TV buttons disabled. They have not messed with the audio/player buttons any.

That is the most ghetto set up I've ever seen... But if I had pics of my Playstation 1 set up in the garage that I had years ago I'd have you beat.

We got a new system, and I took some better pics:

Same specs as before, minus the Gamecube and plus a Wii.
