WindowsApps folder access denied is some really draconian poop

Bought new SSD.
Wanted to transfer old drive to new SSD.
WindowsApps was on the old drive and would not transfer.
Full control access, full admin, takeown, icacls, safe mode; I tried it all for several hours.
Windows 10 had files in this folder locked down HARD; can't copy or move.

It WOULD let me delete the files BUT not restore them.

F it. It was only Forza Horizon 3 PC anyway. Deleted all the folders.

Be warned: Far as I know, there is absolutely no solution to copy or move certain files that Win10 insist as being locked.

Edit: The only thing I didn't try that I thought of just now is to use a 3rd party backup program and try restore the locked files to a different location. I'm guessing there would of been a blockage of some sort trying this also.

Windows 10 is definitely screwy about some files and folders. I had a folder that was empty and when I tried to delete it Windows insisted that it wasn't there. Tried everything to no avail.

As far as I know, there is NO way of backing up/restoring any of Windows 10's anemic apps (apart from an entire system image), and it's mostly due to this nonsense.

likely the result of the 98 capable deltree c:\ *.* (might need an echo in there). Now Microsoft makes it harder for smart people to do things too. :/

What's more is that you can't just change the location of the folder. I have a mounted volume (4TB) going to C:\Storage. That's where all my games are installed. C: itself is only a 256GB SSD with the OS and programs.

Also have a 4TB D: drive with only 50GB of space left in it.

I literally can't install GoW4 because C: and D: don't have enough space. On the flipside, C:\Storage has over 1TB of available space, but windows doesn't let you install Apps where you want.

I don't follow. What's C:\Storage? How can you have 1TB available space on a 256GB SSD? Are using something like AMD fuze drive?

Appears that you can't change it for anything that's already existing, but you can change the location for any new apps you download (and I'm guessing any that you have to/choose to re-download). :bleh:

Settings -> System -> Storage -> Change where new content is saved

He's using a symlink (ie. C:\Storage -> E:\ or whatever)

Yup, and windows settings don't realize that C:\Storage and C:\ are different volumes.

Code:
Volume Capacity Usage
-----------------------------------------------------------
C: 256GB SSD OS, Programs
C:\Storage 4TB HDD Games
D: 4TB HDD Media, Personal Storage

EDIT: For those who don't know, drives don't need a letter assigned to be mounted...
