Windows 10 updated and messed up configuration

I just turned on my PC for the first time in a week or two. Evidently, Windows 10 updated itself since the last time I turned it on. I don't recall seeing check boxes next to all the file icons before.

All of my Windows configuration is gone...the taskbar layout, the start menu, the arrangement of my desktop, and my apps' registry entries (I'm seeing first-time use dialog boxes pop up and Chrome asked me to log in).

And I see that it's using user configuration from Users/TEMP instead of Users/myName. So that explains why my configuration is lost. But in the Start menu I can see it's still logged into my regular account with my name.

Any idea what's going on? How can I get it to go back to the proper user configuration?

That's strange

You can go to settings > windows update > view installed updates > uninstall updates. And see what ones are installed in the last few weeks, them maybe try to remove them?

Might also want to run system file checker and checkdisk on the hard drive.

here's an article about profile issues with some ideas: https://appuals.com/temporary-profile-issues-in-windows-10/

Sounds like you may have been accidently moved to Tablet mode. Happens to my laptop periodically. The checkboxes thing is the thing that makes me suspect that.
