RAGE PRO upgrade to Windows XP

Hi,

After an upgrade of my Compaq Presario to windows XP I have a problem to upgrade the graphic driver for my RAGE LT PRO AGP 2X. According to Microsoft release notes
there can be a problem with Rage3-based display cards and you should contact the vendor.

After the upgrade the resolution was set to lowest level and could not be changed,
and the problem is that I can't change my adapter driver, the computer shuts down just after the installation restart.

I have found some information that ATI Rage Pro chipset will not allow reference or updated
drivers to be installed due to the hardware identification string is not being present in the
driver setup information (INF) file, see http://www.geocities.com/ziyadhosein/inf.htm

My adapter information details are:
Chip Type: ATI 3D RAGE LT PRO AGP 2X (A2U2)
DAC Type: ATI Internal DAC
Adapter String: 1002-4C42-DC-1002-4C42

The upgrade display driver for windows XP and ATI RAGE PRO have the details:
file: wxp-j5-30-1-B02.exe
Verison: 5.10.2600.6010 (02/28/2002)

I have tried to modify the INF file (ATIIXPAD.INF) suggested by the above web page.
But I'm not really sure if I have done the right modification.
Below are the two strings I have added and played with and I have tried several
combinations of the strings but with no success.
Now I'm stuck and I need help how this should be set.

[ATI.Mfg]
RAGE LT PRO AGP 2X = ati2mpad, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4C42&SUBSYS_4C421002, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4C42

[ati2mpad]
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4C42&SUBSYS_4C421002, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4C42

Any support and suggestions are very much appreciated.

Just download one of the drivers at my site and you should be fine.
I have a similar Compaq Presario 5140 system iith a Rage LT Pro.
The file you speak of from ATI does not need modification to install on the LT Pro, provided that you are doing a manual install from Device Manager.
By the way, you did make an error in the syntax.

[ATI.Mfg]
RAGE LT PRO AGP 2X = ati2mpad, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4C42&SUBSYS_4C421002, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4C42
is correct.

Leave the text under [ati2mpad] as it was.

Solved

I managed to solve my problem before I read your suggestion and have therefore not tried it.
After I had installed windows XP the installation program choosed wrong driver for my card.
It was thou a driver for ATI RAGE PRO but not the correct one. I found other graphic drivers
in the list for ATI drivers and tried some of them with no success. What I did not do was to scroll down
to the end where the correct driver was located. I was about to give up when I found this and now everything
is alright, I'm now happily running XP in my machine.

Thanks!

is there any drivers out there for my compaq 4620 with built in 2 meg 2x ati card rage pro?

Drivers at my site support all Rage Pro based cards, including those in your compaq.

This response is a bit late, but I am trying to install the same display adapter in a new Compaq in order to make use of a Compaq FP700 flat panel monitor.
I am having the identical issue where I can not set the resolution above 4bit under windows XP.
I've tried using the drivers on your site and wind up with spontaneous reboots.
HELP!

Please help with ATI Rage Pro (AGP 2X)

Please help with ATI Rage Pro (AGP 2X)

Dear Big Z and ABXPSUP,

I have a Dell OptiPlex GX1 with integrated ATI Rage Pro (AGP 2X) graphics 4 MB SGRAM. Please see link below for more specifications:

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ban_gx1/specs.htm

I recently updated to Windows XP sp3 and bought a Samsung LCD with high resolution wide screen.

Windows XP automatically installed the driver for my card with version 5.1, with max resolution only 1024 x 768, and it looks very bad. :(

I've been searching for a new driver but I cannot find it  . Is there any way I can get my card to higher resolution and wide screen?

I see that my card is similar to the one you are discussing (am I right?). But I couldn't figure out how to download it from this forum.

Thank you very much :) . I desperately need it.
