On build 10547 now. I had to reset and even though I'm logged in with the same login I used for Insider Preview, Windows reports unactivated and displays an annoying watermark.

After two hours of searching and trying things, I'm stumped. Any ideas or should I just live with the watermark?

insider builds will always have a build watermark and yes you can remove the watermark.

Not the build watermark.

"Activate Windows"
"Go to Settings to activate Windows"

Unless you bought a retail win10 key, you have either go back to win7/8 than use win10 upgrade tool and reactivate with RTM 10240 build. Other options will be using third party piracy app like kms spice.

I never had a problem with clean installed so far with win 10 and different insiders\leak builds regarding activation.

Do you have a key?

This is what I found interesting, I did Win 10 upgrade from Win 8.1. Using Aida 64 (most recent) system info it shows the Activation number and then also the Key for Win 10. I did not think that Win 10 upgrade had a key or is it really something else?

It's not a retail key so if you tried to reinstall directly to win10 that key wouldn't work.

have you ever had a final version of windows 10 installed and activated?

if you were running a preview before then it won't automatically activate, at least not as far as I know...legit anyways

for me after upgrading to 10 and then doing a clean install, it still took a week to activate with MS for whatever reason, might be worth waiting a few days?

What is this?

key management server. If the key was say like "confiscated" from work and the domain might have its own local kms server (more of a plugin or app sitting on a server) where the workstations authorize themselves too instead of going out to the MS server. If that is the case then it won't work until the old OS is activated properly.
