My 9700 pro died so I bought a 5600 FX

Was that a bad Ideal?? It seems to run ok but defenitly not as good as my 9700 pro. I am currently stationed in South Korea and all they sell are Geforce FX's and the 9500 non pro. I did find a 9700 non pro but they wanted like 370 dollars for it. But overall I am liking the performance it is giving me does anyone know a good website for nvidia cards???

A 5600 is quite a step down from a 9700 Pro, but it sounds like that is about the only option you had.

As for nVidia-related websites, the best one I can recommend is nVnews - It's so good even I've racked up 500 posts on their forum! :p

well like I said it definetly wasn't something I wanted to do but it was either wait 3 weeks for a new 9700 pro to come in and have no computer or buy the 5600 and start using my computer again

couldn't you use the 5600 for a couple weeks, then RMA it and get a 9700 pro instead when they come in? Or does the place you bought it from not do that kind of thing?

Once you buy something here you really can't return it so I don't have that option but as for my 9700 pro I bought it from Circuit City like almost a year ago so I don't think I could have returned it.

Have you contacted ATI? If I'm not mistaken, all their cards have a 3 year warranty...

... as long as you didn't mod it or abuse it, then you should be ok.

nVnews got hacked a while back, and everything got trashed including the forum - They had to start it again from scratch, so everyone lost their postcounts.

I did mod it. I took the shim off and replaced it with AS3

 no wonder y there are so less threads there.

I like most of the guys over at NVNews, not bad guys, although there are a few serious cementheads.........
I try not to let them bother me, and most of the time I just laugh at them ( wooden indians)...... until I hear something really stupid.:D

9700 Pro under warranty replacement would be a great way to go, as the 5600 is a step down.

Still, the 5600 may not be a bad card to have until you can afford an uprgrade, assuming the 9700 Pro does not get warranty replacement.

Be happy with what you have and enjoy it. If you can run your games at 1024x768x32, more power to you. :)

Tell me you at least got the NEW(Higher clocked) ultra version?
Only the NEW ultra's are for sale..the old one is just for reviewer's.

Anyway post some OC'ing results for 5600U.. heard it OC's like 9600p.

you can allways try to send it to them, if they won't send you a replacement that's bad but if they send it you'll ahve a 9700pro and a 5600ultra :P

I would have looked into those 9500 non pros to see if they are moddable. You could have had your 9700 pro back with just a hack and an overclock :) . BTW I heard they take their PC gaming really serious in South Korea, si that true?
