Monthly cumulative updates coming to Win7, Win8.1 in October

No worries, though. Monthly cumulative updates never, ever cause problems with Win10, right?

From an oh jesus butt clogged choke point oh god they keep coming standpoint this bodes well for those on say Windows 7 who have to put up with hundreds of updates just to get current from a clean install.

The down side is as you mentioned the potential for more issues to be created rather than solved by said updates.

That's the main one. But there's also the matter of MS adding in new "features" to the cumulative updates, with no way to opt out of them. So it's a mixed bag, at best. Not to mention the headaches for admins/IT staff.

For the diehard holdouts among us, it looks like there will be an option to manually download a "security-only" cumulative update every month instead of the one that gets pushed to WinUpdate. So that's obviously gonna be my plan.

For every one else it's hold-onto-yer-butts-and-prepare-to-be-assimilated. :manches2:
