MacOS Big Sur drops

Yeah I'm waiting while the bugs are getting worked out. Apparently older macbook pro's are getting bricked:

What's interesting is this time around you can't pre-update the iwork/ilife suite with those apps saying you need Big Sur to update so I got an App Store icon with a red 6 triggering my OCD as well as the 1 on System Preferences.

My iMac is at the very tail end of the support list, really hoping the M1 chip is as good as all the news that is coming out though it seems like the iMac line is sitting this chip out and waiting for M2.

I haven't noticed any bugs so far, though I've read about a few. I'm on a MacBook Pro 16" 2019 so it's a newer system, no issues with the update.

I only really use Mac's for work and our tools are not playing nice just yet. So I'll also be waiting till things get sorted out.

Went ahead with the upgrade which took faster than I thought it would though it still took a while. Had to re-read an article to figure out where notification center went (you click on the clock now). I used to have a huge list with the stock widget but now it's limited to 6 with Big Sur. Other than it seems to use more memory (Before I can get away with using 0 Swap all day if I'm careful now I seem to have to Swap 22MB at a minimum, I have 8G RAM) the OS seems fine. Still have to get used to the square icons and the font spacing is different everywhere.

I'm not sure why Apple chose to make Big Sur look more like iOS when you can't run iOS/iPadOS apps on MacOS and vice versa. It gives the appearance of a homogenous environment when it really isn't.

Because that paradigm has now shifted with the new M1 mac's being able to run iOS apps. And going forward, all apple silicon powered mac's will be able to.

Ah. That makes sense then.

Picked up the .1 update, seems like they let you use the mac during the initial phase of the update as it told me to wait 15min before asking me to restart. The time where I couldn't use the computer seemed less because of it.

Was able to not swap if careful, OS was probably rebuilding caches and what not the first few days. As long as I don't keep open a dozen tabs all day I can save my SSD some writes.

What has pissed me off is I used to listen to the local radio via the music app but now you can't get the station to play unless you accept the free trial to apple music. The "Not Now" button dismisses the pop up but nothing plays and clicking the station again just brings back up the free trial popup!
