Google Pixel XL: Screen Burn In

I have an original Google Pixel XL that I purchased earlier this year, less than 6mo ago or so. The burn in is from the menu bar with the shapes used for shortcut commands. Pretty disappointing since I generally don't leave my phone screen on and never use it to play games.

Any way to recover that portion of the screen or do anything about it?

If you can find a gif, or video that cycles between black and white, you maybe able to reduce the effects, or even remove the retention completely.

A quick search implies that is a general issue with the Pixel phones..
