Going from 1080p to 1440p ....

badsykes you keep contradicting yourself. In another thread you said you wanted good RT so right now that's an nV card yet on this you you say you want a 6800 but the vid says 5700XT can do 60 FPS in most of these titles so I'm REALLY confused about what it is that you want and what budget you have to get that.

This was a video with vega56 versus the new gen cards and various resolution.Vega56 is pretty much unplayable in 1440p with high/ultra high in many of those games.RTX was obviously not involved here.

What a load of BS , You can play many games even today at 1440p.

That video you linked shows a 5700xt above 60fps in all those scenarios.

Will it do Ray Traciing at 60fps, no... but you're clearly not that rich and have to budget.

So either get a console, or make some sacrifices.

You can't buy a graphics card with the hopes it's going to last many years that rarely happens.

Also if you have a freesync/gsync monitor you're not going to notice that much when the FPS dips below 60.

I don't see the 5700xt in 1440p having MINIMUM 60fps in all scenarios. With Vega56 in 1080p in 2017 i didn't not need to make those sacrificies. With 5700xt i have to.Is not acceptable.I prefer to play 1080p high/ultra high than 1440p with things down just for the sake of playing 1440p.

I really don't understand what you're trying to get at here. Yes, mid-range GPUs will struggle to hold 60FPS minimums in GPU intensive games such as RDR2 and Control. However, the 5700XT does hold 60FPS minimums in almost every game except the ones that you would expect it to struggle with, like Control, where the card gets pulverized; no surprise there, as even a 3090 will struggle at 4K with max settings.

50fps minimum vs 60fps minimum, with the advent of Variable Refresh Rate, is barely even noticeable anymore. I'm an FPS whore and I've ran high refresh-rate monitors since the very first offerings were available, and GSync/FreeSync have made the lower framerate range much less noticeable to not noticeable at all.

Of course a higher resolution will require more processing power; the issue is you're fixated on 60FPS minimum but on a budget that doesn't really have the dollar to achieve that framerate goal. I'd truly rather play 1440P with 1-2 settings taken off of Ultra (in most games this is barely perceivable anyway) than play at 1080P. You can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig.

A graphics whore without taste eh.

Time and time again it has been shown by the likes of Digital Foundry and Hardware Unboxed that (especially recently but that may be due to people paying attention to it more) that Ultra settings are nothing but a "power virus" to game fidelity and you can be just as big a graphics whore by turning on settings that matter rather than crank it to 11 and wonder why your gpu is shitting it's pants.

By all means tho you stare at your tofu and I'll continue to stare at this 1440p steak :3

Damn he said tofu vs steak

I also feel like ultra settings are things you turn on if you're already getting enough performance. A lot of time the difference between high and ultra is close to unnoticeable, and I'd rather have the extra frames unless I already have more than enough to spare.

So, does running a higher resolution via VSR give a pretty good approximation of how the card would perform at that resolution on a panel where that was the native res? Or is it not that simple?

I prefer playing on 1080p high or ultra instead of 70% more pixels and playing at medium or barely high.
I know there are some situation like in Cyberpunk where shadows kill so much of fps.I can accept that to go down in details but to actually go to medium for the sake of 1440p is just too much and not acceptable.
With the Benq there was already a little bump in resolution to 1900x1200.
I have my vega56 from 2017 launch and i keep a card for more years in service. This is why the 5700xt is not a solution for 1440p.It is an upgrade for 1080p gaming in new games. In 1440p will be bordeline playable or not.Is already out of steam. The HD6950 i had kept it for 5 years.
Using rx580 and 1440p triple AAA new games is masochism.

I agree it's why I went to a Vega64 in December of 2019.

Also you'd have better luck with holding onto hardware if you would have gotten a freesync monitor but that's just beating a dead whore.

Leave my ex wife and girlfriends out of this!:bleh:

The motion blur i found is the most anoying thing and is present on all 3 monitors. Not the tearing.
Also I played Cyberpunk at 44 fps and is not anoying in any way for me personally.I would loved to have 60fps minimum but with my current configuration is understandable.

On that note we can close this up.
