Hi Peter,
As you, I tried to install RageLTMan's ESS Maestro 2-E drivers on my notebook and, as you, my first installation didn't succeed. So I tried to "hack" it a little. After some tries and about one and a half hours (I have no idea about Win95/98 device drivers) I found the key to the problem. Take note:
- Unzip the package to a temporary directory.
- Remove the Read-only attribute of the file called Maestro.inf 'cause you'll need to modify it.
- Edit Maestro.inf.
- Search for a section called [Manufacturer]. Here is half of the problem: %MfgName%=(Unofficial) ESSTech.
- Notice that a couple of lines below there is a section called [ESSTech]. This is the other half of the problem. This section should have the same name as the %MfgName% key.
- Change the %MfgName% key to %MfgName%="(Unofficial) ESSTech" and the name of the section below to [(Unofficial) ESSTech].
- Save the file.
- Install the driver.
As I said above, I have no idea about Win95/98 device drivers but it worked, at least in my notebook.
Have a nice day.
Jordi Mas
P.S.:If RageLTMan or any other driver expert reads this, I'd appreciate some confirmation if the procedure I followed to solve the problem is correct.
