What's the last thing you purchased?

The test run is a chicken, but once I have it dialed in I see bacon and ribs on the menu 😁

Running Cat6 throughout the new house

I thought about it (even have a spool of nylon cord), but without putting it in conduit there's no way I could pull it end to end in one go. There's truss plates sticking up everywhere and I'd just shred the cable (guess how I figured that out). I just ran double of everything in case there's...

Running Cat6 throughout the new house

I ended up pulling almost all of the existing cable because as I was teasing it apart there was just way too much spaghetti. Weird chunks just coiled up going nowhere, and stuff that didn't make any sense where it was going. Either the installer was told "Put in x feet of cable and end points"...

Running Cat6 throughout the new house

Since the basement of the new house is completely open and undeveloped, I thought this would be the perfect time for future proofing. Since I don't intend to move again, I wanted to run some Cat6 network cable to the rec room, what will become my lab/office, the living room, where the WiFi...

Working on a big change - moving

Well, I was able to handle -40 in northern Ontario, so I guess we'll see.

Why I'm in trouble today...keep it going

Wife: {pushing shop vac} "It's not sucking anymore." Me: "You must have put a ring on it."

What's the last thing you purchased?

New grill to go along with the new house. Chair and beer for scale. Yes, the yard needs a lot of TLC. I only just took possession two days ago.

Working on a big change - moving

"Small" update. I'm now sitting in the back yard of an Airbnb in Regina waiting to get the keys. The place was a rental and needs a bunch of cosmetic work, but for just over $120k, there's room in the reno budget to make it exactly right.

What's the last thing you purchased?

I wanted the Elantra because 90+ out of every 100km I drive is on the highway and my next big trip is going to be a 3000km run to Regina. The tires that came with the car are 'meh', but otherwise it just glides along. Not having gears takes some getting used to, but that CVT is getting me some...

What's the last thing you purchased?

A 2025 Hyundai Elantra Preferred in "Cyber Grey". First new car of my life, picking it up today. It was going to cost me at least a grand to get my 2011 S**tmobile Cruze to the point I could drive it out west with any confidence, so it was time to get rid of the rust bucket. I did have to...

Working on a big change - moving

My understanding is that the Saskatchewan government is a pragmatic version of conservative as opposed to "Anti-Liberal" conservative. Guess I'll find out soon enough.

Working on a big change - moving

Well, the deed is mostly done. It took a year longer than expected, but I guess that's how it goes. The current place is sold, a new place out west has been acquired, and now it's a case of getting all of the moving parts to align. Well, that and trying to keep the Mrs. from spending double...

    No more cats...

That's one of the chief joys of sitting outside here when it's warmer. There's always outdoor and stray cats wandering around, and there's usually at least one that will come by "Hey random stranger I've never seen before, I'm going to sit on your lap now."

    No more cats...

Six months after the younger one passed, we had to put his older brother down today. He was losing weight, started having trouble breathing, and was refusing food. The vet said that he could feel a mass on his liver during a quick exam and it was almost certainly cancer. We had a nasty growth...

    Wow... 22 years.

Wow, in another week or so it will be 23 years for me. Time flies...like a dump truck...pushed off a cliff...
