I'm not sure how it works with MW2 so here's my stupid question/statement: I have 4 computers connected for lan play, while also having access to the internet. I understand that all computers have to have their own copy of MW2 and be Steam activated, and I believe that in order to play a game together, we would all have to meet in some matchmaking service online, but... once we are all in a game together where one player is a listen-server, are we all directly connecting to each other through the switch/router, or are we all sending our signals out to some location on the internet only to come right back to the same house where we all are? Sorry for the dumb question, but I'd prefer lag-free gameplay, and no, we wouldn't be playing with anyone else on the internet... just us. Thank you. |

The way it works (legally) is that all of you on the LAN have to have your own key and your own Steam account. One of you sets up the game and adds the other as friends in Steam. Then you send an invitation to the friends you want to join in and when all join you start playing. Hope this helps. |

There's some homemade patches that claim to fix this issue of not being able to play offline from steam ![]() |

So, bottom line is that Steam is not just used as a software validation *ahem* service and/or matchmaking service, but my signal actually has to go out to them and back again while I'm playing the game, even though I'm only playing someone 10 feet away from me? |
