Default [Quick Test] Jump from HD4850 to HD4870

I have decide to jump from my previous HD4850 to PowerCOlor HD4870. Yep, I need a boost to gain more performance in 1680x1050. I did sell my HD4850 and spent for another $100 to get this Trojan.

Packaging and Accessories

Here’s the Trojan’s box, presented by PowerColor

- Driver CD
- Crossfire connector
- S-video to composte adapter
- 3-way RCA component cable (Analog HD)
- VGA-DVI dongle
- HDMI adapter

PowerColor HD4870 Closer Looks

It’s quite bigger than HD4850

Is it reincarnation eh? The cooler remind me of HD2900XT.

Closer Looks in continue ...

Sweet ATI Radeon logo, later I can watch his beauty from my side panel

AMD name and logo printed in this board

Just take a shot besides I wont be able to do CrossFire with my P35 motherboard

Another pic with DVI-HDMI converter build by ATI

RGB component female jack

This is the actual length

The card requires 2x6pin power connector

Enough for the pics …

But why 9.0 score ? with these results , it deserves 9.7

HD4870 is the best bang for the buck right now , for people like me who play games @1680x1050 with AA/AF

That's your fault then , not HD4870's

Seriously though : I think that at higher resolutions , HD4870 would be more than 20% faster than HD4850

Or with 8XAA

Nice review and card. My VisionTek has no art on the card. It's just an ATI reference 4870 with the regular cooler. I noticed your CPU is overclocked to 3.0GHz. One thing people need to realize is that if they have a lesser CPU like mine, they will not notice as much of a difference between a 4850 and a 4870.

I would have to agree but 9 seems like a fair score. For over 9 they would have had to include a fan control slider in the CCC.

While 80c does not scare me onle bit, there are a few people out there would be more comfortable if they had a choice to bump the fan a touch.

Dual core clocked to 4GHz will no affect much if we are playing the game @1680x1050+ with AA on for sure

Thumbs up

Wow! That was great. I only just got my 4850 today and it nearly stretches from the front of my case to the rear. When you say bigger you mean thicker because of the cooler or is it longer also? At least the Giga-Byte chick is hotter!

Isn't that fish a little to impressionable to be surrounded by such a wild environment?

Look like this DDR5 is no fluff. No way you can get that much performance difference just with the core speed upgrade.
