Default [Quick Test] Gecube HD3870X2 X-Turbo

i got Gecube HD3870X2 X-Turbo sample from Gecube Taiwan. It's just another option The card has arrived yesterday and it is "BRA edition", yep, 3870X2 with dual fan. The card came with 850MHz for core clock and 980MHz for memory clock (factory oced by Gecube).

I did the test on Core 2 Quad 6600 at 3.7GHz and ABiT P35 Blood Iron motherboard. Yep, i have to test this X2 in my friend's rig, because i knew that my E6300 will bottlenecking the card. I also load this baby on 20" display, sorry mate, the max res was only 1680x1050, but it should be quite enough for quick testing the X2. The Power Supply i've used is Crossair HX520W Modular. Here's the detail of my test bed:
- Crossair HX520W PSU
- Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 3.7Ghz
- DFI P35 Blood Iron
- Kingbox 2x1GB DDR2-1030 4-4-4-4
- LG 204WT Monitor
- HDD: 2x250GB Hitachi
- DVD Pioneer 111L
- Windows XP Professional SP2 32bit
- Windows Ultimate 32bit
Thanks to: Wedfighter

- Gecube HD3870X2 X-Turbo 1GB
Thanks to: AMTEC

Display driver:
- ATI 8.451 driver

- Gecube HD3870X2 X-Turbo Graphic card
- User manual
- CD Driver ATI 4.51
- DVI to D-Sub converter
- DVI to HDMI converter (build by ATI)
- Composite Video out cable (R, G, B)
- Analog dan S-Video out cable
- 2x IDE to 6-pin power chord converter

yep, this card can be loaded with 2x6pin power chord
wow wow wow, ... did u saw non-solid capacitor right there?
I guess it might be engineering sample card, because i have already saw from its box picture, they just already all solid capacitor design

Picture in the back-side of the box

Synthetic Benchmark
It's just FAST

3DMark03 1680x1050

3DMark05 1680x1050

3DMark06 1680x1050

Summary

Looks strange on 3DMark03 1680x1050 with 8xAA and 16xAF ...

DX9 Performance
- Call of Duty 4 – Modern Warfare
- Crysis
- Company of Heroes

DX10 Performance
- Crysis
- Call of Juarez

Strange result on Crysis GPU-benchmark. I had no issue to play Crysis Very High DX10 in real game, not GPU-bench batch file.

Overclocking …
I used ATITool to overclock core #1 and AMDGPUClock to overclock core #2

3DMark06 Gecube HD3870X2 X-Turbo @ 900/999MHz

Temperature and Noise
Idle:

Full Load:

Nice “bra edition” i didn't hear any annoying noise came from its dual fan

Verdict
Pros:
+ Fastest GPU at the moment
+ Superb performance at high resolution display
+ HD3870X2 factory oced @ 850/980.
+ Dual fan cooling solution from Gecube… quite and cool.
+ Dual chip GPU on single board.
+ Monthly WHQL driver
+ Avivo, UVD, HDMI, HDCP, Quad DVIs output
+ Low Power Consumption for dual GPus, as u can see, we tested on Crossair HX520W PSU
+ CrossFire X .... ?
+ DX10.1 / SM4.1 ready.

Cons:
- It's depend on what the game we play, this card will ROCK on the engine games which have support for multi scaling GPUs
- There's no Quad Fire driver at the moment, but they're working on it
- Need high performance PC system and high resolution display to play with it (build and designed for the enthusiasts).

Thanks

__/becco\__

*note: The sample card is already sent back to Taiwan, i cannot approve any of your request, but hopefully you'll enjoy with this.

This looks like a nice improvement over reference. If the memory was closer to regular 3870 speed it would be near flawless.

so any idea if/when this bad boy might come to market in the US ? Of all the X2 variants, this one is the most tempting for four reasons:

1: 4 Dvi (imagine 2 of these driving 8 displays oh the possibilites)
2: 2x6 PCIe power connectors (and still allow OCing)
3: Ability to disable Crossfire (for those titles when X2 performs worse that a single 3870)
4: Custom PCB (allowing shorter footprint for those of us w/o full server size cases)

I like Powercolor too. I still have an old Powercolor X800XL in the house I really don't need it and never sold it.

That was ALL becco

I did none of his review.

But thanks just the same.

This looks like a badass card for sure. Any word on the next driver for this sucka! I hope we can switch in and out of CF mode easily for that rare game you might get stuck on from time to time.

I was thanking you for your other thread compiling all the X2 reviews. You know, the one where you got called for being biased?

Have you come across any games that don't play smoothly?

Besides Tombraider Legend?

I gotta say that I like the Gecube design and cooling. Certainly much better than that GX2 slide becco posted in Gen Garphics.
