Default Problems playing high definition MP4!

Hey guys,

Got a new HD camera – a Sanyo VPC-FH1.
Anyway I recorded some clips in HD mp4, watched them on the sanyo, no worries, copied them to my comp and:

VLC player just shows a distorted screenshot and plays the audio
Jetaudio has some seriously laggy/unwatchable footage, DivX the same
So I convert it into an AVI and they are all playing it fine. I don't want to have to do that though with every thing I film though?!

Any advice? Comp is powerful enough, 4gb ram, core2duo 6600, 8800gtx. Should also add I tried it on my laptop and got similar results.

Thanks

Video is encoded as MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 with AAC audio. Although these are the same codecs used by AVCHD camcorders, Sanyo doesn't implement the full AVCHD spec. The VPC-FH1's MPEG-4 files play nicely in the bundled Nero 8 Essentials software, but some editing applications may require first converting the MPEG-4 files to another format.

There might be a codec on the included software CD that you need to install. If not then you'll have to convert it using something like SUPER © to transcode it to what your system can play better.

Try Antipack before any codec packs etc.

MPC-HC includes splitters and DS filters for most formats (certainly AVC in MP4) and can utilize commercial ones as well.

VLC is a rudimentary all-in-one. DivX is poop. Codec packs are poop. I am not familiar with JetAudio but presumably it is... wait for it... poop.

FFDShow does it all. And media player classic.
Not a fan of codec packs myself.

cccp uses ffdshow primarily, and comes bundled with MPC. all other codec packs are crap, but this one works every time.

VLC kicks a$$.

I haven't installed a codec pack in months thanks to VLC.

I like to use Shark 007's codecs, mainly because he updates them all the time. But it is more bloated than CCCP is. CCCP is bare minimum, and it plays everything.

google HD Pack 2.2..
I use that with a minimum Shark install if something doesnt get covered, everyonce in a while I come across an ON2 (vp2, VP3, VP6) or IntelVideo5 that needs a codec other than that I run as few codecs as possible (or try to)

After reading the OP and the entire thread, I'd have to side with this answer as being the only one that actually answers the original question.
