Default Deleted scene from Half-Life 2?

Was the scene below deleted from Half-Life 2? i remember seeing it in the E3 videos.

Also from the picture below, is that weapon and scene exclusive to the xbox version?

that pic was already discussed here. there are lots of games that have parts shown that don't get into the final product.

they release information about parts that they think look nice, but later they remove it from the game for one reason or another.

Story changes were made, thus what you see in the first did not make it in the final game.

The second is from a level built merely to show off the game.

The hydra (water monster in the first screen) was cut because it was invulnerable and was too hard to get pasted for most of the play testers. At least that's why I remember reading.

Yeah it killed in one hit since its only attack was to impale you. It could be killed but was meant to be hard to take out.

If i remember correctly, they took out the gun because they said it wasn't really needed.

wow, looking at that first pic, amazing how far it progressed before it's release. actually they did certainly have the time to improve it, and improve they did.

Their reason for cutting it was dumb. They could have left it in for a few cameo appearances, where it just happens to not be able to reach you. Or they could have made it less deadly to the player.

Usually when you try something and it doesn't work perfectly, you go back to the drawing board, rather than just crumple it up and throw it in the trash.

^^ I agree, a few cameo appearances in the distance would have been good, especially if it made you think "oh ****, I'm gonna have to fight that", then have something else kill it by accident :P

Hmm, I beg to differ.

I thought the AI was quite good...finding ways into houses (the coast levels) that I had boarded up with furniture and my grav gun.

THe problem being that one way the AI finds ways into houses is just pushing stuff that you can't budge (without the grav gun) out of the way.
